These blue cities are going to continue to fight this.

quote:

Video gathered by FOX4 shows multiple ICE agents standing outside of the facility, wearing masks and police vests. One clip shows two agents confronting and shining a flashlight into a vehicle parked outside the warehouse. The occupant inside the car keeps the window closed throughout the conversation.

It was later discovered that the occupant was Jackson County Legislator Manuel Abarca IV.

The Kansas City leader shared a video on X Thursday morning, stating he had been informed that DHS and ICE were touring a “mega detention facility” in south Kansas City and “decided to stop by.”

The one-minute video shows Abarca holding identification against the window and telling ICE agents to “go ahead” and “call the police” after he was threatened with arrest for “trespassing.”

He added that after they threatened him with arrest, agents blocked the front and rear of his truck. Abarca added that he refused to get out of his truck until a supervisor came over.

According to the elected official, the agents confirmed off-camera that the building, along with others in the area, is in the running for a 7,500-bed detention facility.

He concluded his post with: “Local Electeds must step up, and engage. We cannot sit ideally by and let things happen in our community,” Abarca wrote. “Today, I put my and my families security on the line. What are YOU willing to sacrifice for democracy in America?”

On Nov. 28, 2025, KPB was awarded a $29.9 million no-bid contract by the DHS and ICE, according to a public database tracking U.S. government contracts.

Kansas City is a potential location for one of seven new detention centers across the U.S.

Id reward red areas. Find facilities in rural areas or medium size cities that are strongly conservative. This will make it harder for protesters, and cut any financial benefit to areas who are opposed to deportations. There weren’t a lot of protesters showing up in Jena for the abrego Garcia guy.

Missouri is red but KC and St Louis are dark blue when it comes to govt.

Looking at the map, it's in a fairly rural area not far from the old air force base and close to National Nuclear Security Administration area. The mayor and council have created a 5 year ban prohibiting non-municipal detention facilities thinking they can usurp federal authority.

7500 bed facility that may be used in the near future:

The problem with that is because of sanctuary policies (i.e. refusal to assist in the enforcement of federal laws duly passed by Congress) the hombres they are looking for are in these areas.

Now, that doesn't fully 'fit' with this example because MO can be considered red and, in addition, because of industries in the area, is inundated by both legals and illegals.

I do agree with you, bring this to areas where the populous is on your side both for the agents security and a reward. I'd go the extra step and get gov't grants for 3rd party security around those facilities to basically crack heads of an protesters who do travel in from that supportive populous.

It's happening.

Real estate company says negotiations complete for KC warehouse:

snip:

Platform Ventures (PV) – an independent private investment firm – said it was approached in October 2025 with an unsolicited offer to purchase a vacant, industrial warehouse at the former Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base.

“PV has a fiduciary duty to evaluate every sale or lease proposal involving this facility, as we do for all properties in our portfolio,” the company said in a statement. “In this case, all negotiations are complete. PV does not question prospective buyers on their intent after close, and we will not engage in public conversations involving speculation over future uses.”

the facility would hold at least 7,500 beds and was planned to open by the end of 2026.

The facility takes up more than 920,000 square feet.

This is good because we can't send them out fast enough. The biggest problem will be without a broad deal with Democrats on immigration these people will just come back when a dem wins the presidency

Agree. Why not get some low hanging fruit and go to smaller communities that also have illegals working and taking jobs? I live in suburbia and I could probably find you 100 on any given weekday. I could show several trailer parks that have 3 to 4 times that. Many would self deport when the pressure was on. Businesses will scream but they are just going to have to come up with better pay to hire legal workers.

Manny is an embarrassment to the majority of people in the KCMO area.

quote:

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County Legislator Manuel “Manny” Abarca IV is facing charges on both sides of the state line.

In Kansas, he faces a domestic battery charge. In Missouri, he has been charged in Kansas City Municipal Court with violating a protection order.

Jackson Co. Legislator Abarca served protection order before reported missing
According to online court records, the protection order was issued by a Jackson County Circuit Court judge on May 30. As part of it, Manny was ordered to have no contact with his wife, and his wife was awarded custody of their child.

His wife, Alexis Garcia Abarca, reported Manny and their 2-year-old son missing over the weekend, stating that she last saw her son on the evening of Wednesday, May 28, and last saw Manny on Thursday, May 29.

The citizens might be but not the politicians in charge. They are so willing to spend millions of taxpayer money to file lawsuits that they know will be overturned in order to impede progress.

snip:
Representative Emanuel Cleaver opposes the plan. He’s taking Kansas City’s stance, wanting ICE and any detention facility out.

https://www.kctv5.com/2026/01/17/political-battle-brewing-over-ice-detention-facility-location/

snip:

Kansas City, Missouri, passed a resolution imposing a five-year ban on non-municipal detention facilities after ICE personnel conducted a site tour in south KCMO. But the question remains: Can KCMO “say no” to a federal agency? Mayor Lucas introduced the measure.

Associate Professor of Political Science at Park University, Matt Harris, agrees that a lawsuit would likely be filed.

The answer could lie in the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution. “That says that states and municipalities can’t interfere with federal law or its application,” Harris explained.

While he believes the federal government would win, Harris said such challenges could delay the opening of a potential detention center.

“If the feds are interested in building this detention center quickly, something like that could definitely hold up the process. They might ultimately decide it’s better to build somewhere else,” Harris said.

How is converting a large warehouse to a mega detention center site a reward for a small rural city?
