On Saturday in Pensacola, off a trail that goes along Perdido Bay. I wanted to get the moccasin ingesting it but it was taking forever, and I had just got soaked in a rain storm. Towards the end the moccasin attempts to swallow it.

Why is the racer just sitting there?

Incredible. That Racer must have been struck prior?
I don't see it just sitting there while that Spawn of Satan is maneuvering to swallow it. Crazy.

Thanks for sharing.

It was already envenomated. It was basically paralyzed.

I watched it inspect it and size it up for like 30 minutes prior to this.

They do have a mean, alien-like look to em.

its a water moccasin/cottonmouth. I don't believe that there are timbers around there but I could be wrong.

I'm assuming it did unless another predator swooped in and got it, or got both of them. We waited for a long while to see it swallow it, but we were cold and wet, and we tapped out.

if the water moccasin was unsuccessful, would the venom wear off at some point?

Good question. Their venom is hemotoxic and cytotoxic, damages and destroys blood cells and tissue. The racer seemed quite fkd up, so I am assuming that the bite itself would be eventually fatal.

Although not completely immune to water moccasin venom, they can tolerate it much better than most mammals.
