Not really. 104-11 as a head coach and proven track record of developing QBs and success on offense. Didn’t have any ties to Bama but the best resume of any coach that was available at the time.
Only realistic hire than would have been viewed as a better hire at the time is the current coach of LSU.

I thought the same thing until I saw they are second in recruiting rankings with four 5 star recruits and ten 4 star recruits.

They had the #4 recruiting class, so they don’t need a top ranked portal class. We’re still Bama’s beotch until we beat them!

Recruiting classes don’t hold as much weight anymore imo. Not only do they have no experience, many will likely not play their first year and in turn many of them will transfer.

I know he inherited a super talented bama team, and in year one only won 9 games, but he did make the playoffs in his second year and he’s beat our arse. He also brought Washington to a national championship and has a top high school recruiting class. Anyone after Saban was never gonna match his success.
