Businesses saying they don’t have pennies so they just keep your change

Seems sort of like a scam to me.
A business deciding to accept cash and not having the ability to make change doesn’t mean they get to pocket the difference, IMO.

I've never had this happen once in my entire life.

It's a recent thing since the penny is no longer being minted.
IMO, the business should eat the difference on cost.
Just more BS where a business is trying to make more money.
It's not as if the country ran out of pennies overnight.

Really complaining about a few cents?
Posted on 1/16/26 at 10:46 am to weagle1999
Just use a credit or debit card like a normal person bro and you won’t have to deal with this

If you're worried about a few pennies, maybe use your debit card instead?

They can keep the 3 cents I don’t care.

But then they pop you with a transaction fee (I recently saw 5% at a restaurant).

If .04 is going to change your life, you need to quit spending money or pay with a debit card.
I absolutely loathe pennies and am glad they did away with them.

I have yet to experience any business do this.

Babytac will be here shortly to tell us that not caring about the 3 or 4 pennies you should receive is why we’re poor.

This. A smart business would quietly raise prices 4-5% and advertise a cash discount. Most people wouldn't even bat an eye at that.

don't summon that idiot up.

What ticks me off is restaurants that charge you the credit fee even if you pay cash. I don’t go back to those places.

It happened to me several times in last 5 days. It you buy with cash, no way to avoid it.

Why would you get upset over frickin pennies??
Posted on 1/16/26 at 11:04 am to weagle1999
The US is no longer in the business of making pennies, so why are you surprised?
Posted on 1/16/26 at 11:04 am to Trout Bandit
because this board is full of miserable fricks that are bothered by everything they have no control over.
