He mentioned the BBB, so wonder if he is actually referring to the interest deduction of up to $10k? Or something new?

This should help cover the cost of a replacement transmission on a new Chevy.

And let me guess. Tariffs will pay for it.

Yes, it helps American auto makers at US taxpayer expense.

It also contributes to inflation of vehicle prices.

It's not "proposed", it's already here via the Big Beautiful Bill. It's also a credit on interest paid, not the purchase price.

quote:

The "Big Beautiful Bill" (One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act) introduced a temporary federal tax deduction for interest paid on new, U.S.-assembled vehicle loans through 2028, allowing up to a $10,000 deduction for personal use vehicles with final assembly in America, phasing out at higher incomes ($100k single, $200k joint), but it also ended some EV credits after September 2025. This new deduction applies to cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, and motorcycles purchased with loans after December 31, 2024, and is claimed as an "above-the-line" deduction, meaning you don't need to itemize

Proposing?

Sounds like they are doing it.

I could see the Great One, POTUS DJT, telling auto manufacturers they will be prohibited from raising prices if they want to participate in the program.

Elon hated the Big Beautiful Bill because of big government handouts like this.

Made Doge pointless.

10k off a 90k Ford - no thanks

Appreciate the sentiment, and new car buyers will hopefully get a deal from this. Plus, American car makers are such POS shiesters, they'll just add 10k to the sticker to try to cash in. If any corporations need to go belly up, it's American car manufacturers.
