What are your favorite bass baits for this time of year. Water temps should be 55-60. Thanks

Probably starting out with some combo of chatterbait, trap and magdraft. But any moving bait could be the ticket: squarebill, spinnerbait, jerkbait, underspin
And if I was there early, I would throw a topwater just to make sure they wont come eat it.

Jig. Water temps are going to be cold, fish will be mostly dormant. Have to almost hit em on the snout to get a bite.

Weightless Texas Rigged Senkos are deadly in cold/cooler water due to their slow movement , plus they will sink to the top of grass beds and sit.
Nearly all I throw until March, Black/Blue or Pumpkinseed

I’ve always been a person who thought cold water slows down the bite and you should slow way down too. It was 19 degrees post front on Guntersville and every one of those guys is throwing a chatterbait or ratl trap fairly shallow in grass

I’d be flipping a Texas rigged missile baits D bomb, or drop shotting a finesse worm. Something I can fish real slow.

Bite was slow. Threw a weightless yum red shad worm and a topwater frog. Got one on each and a few nice hits on the topwater that I missed. I don’t have much luck this time of year, probably fish my baits too fast.

The colder the water, the better a reaction bite is. Traps and chatterbaits are king around grass and shallow cover. If you have deep water, an Arig is hard to beat. We’ve been catching tons of big bass on an arig and minnow out here on Toledo bend,

This couldn’t be further from the truth. Bass can be super aggressive in cold water. Jerkbaits, crankbaits, chatter baits and RatLTraps can be deadly in temps down to the low 40’s. A-rigs, big swim baits, and glides are also deadly in the cold.

Recently got a livescope and it’s proven me wrong on everything I thought I knew about winter fishing
Few weeks ago it was 30 something degrees out water still in the 50s and I was in 45 feet of water on a creek swing A group of fish sitting 4 feet down Threw a jerk bait over there and caught a 5 lber as soon as it hit the water. Could’ve easily caught it on a spook. Saw that several times lately. A dot out there in deep water just below the surface. Those fish are easy to catch h if you can find them

So you’ve went to the dark side with that live scope! hahaha
Just messing with ya, if you can’t beat them, join them!

I fought it for years. Finally gave in to pressure from the kid lol

It changed the way I fish completely. I used to believe fish would be super inactive in the cold, but FFS has proved that wrong. Those roamers you see are super aggressive. Even the fish you don’t see on FFS come rushing off the bottom out of nowhere to take advantage of an easy meal. Just watching them push bait around is pretty amazing to watch. Winter has become my favorite time to fish for sure.

Definitely. No way I would have gone fishing this time of year in these conditions in years past because I always thought they weren’t biting and you had to fish slow. They are as super fat right now due to feeding

I hear ya, if we fished deep water I’m sure my boys would be pounding me for it.
Instead I’m getting power poles installed this week.
