Question about Brian Kelly

I have a buddy at work who is a big Notre Dame fan. When we hired Kelly, he just laughed. I was excited bc I listened to LSU media folks pump him up (winningest active coach wo a title). My buddy said he’s lazy, doesn’t recruit, and that Notre Dame fans have wanted him gone for years. He said his staff would beg him to make a phone call to 5 star QB recruits and he would tell them that they’ve got it.
I read the board now and hear LSU fans say the same things my buddy said Notre Dame fans said (plays golf more than recruits, lazy, didn’t try to build r ship w players, etc). My question is- where was this criticism when he was LSU coach? I stay plugged in through LSU podcasts, this board, etc. I don’t remember anyone criticizing Kelly about recruiting while he was still coach. I get that BR media has to be nice to LSU to maintain access but to have almost nothing. Auburn media was raking Freeze over the coals about his time spent golfing. How did Kelly avoid active scrutiny?

Were you in a coma during the Vanderbilt and A&M games?

Because outside of Aggie game the team was still pretty competitive

Well, it wasn’t covered while he was doing it. I was shocked when I heard he was recorded at his CC playing over 400 rounds during his 4 years here. That’s two rounds a week. And how many off the record?
That’s way too much for the time and dedication it takes to be LSU’s head football coach. Not to mention the millions you are getting paid.

I meant the offseason/recruiting/team building phase.
When we were losing, there was all kinds of hate toward Kelly. But, it’s not like he became a lazy coach right before those games.

Kelly’s laziness and failure to care was masked by Jayden Daniels and his success. First year was an SEC championship and second year was the Heisman. That provided false hope to many. Me included.

It was mainly because fans have Woodward too much credit until he was fully exposed.

Throw in the back drop of a rebuild and he had enough cover to steal millions from us
