2026 Indycar Season Thread

Edit to add 2026 schedule:
Six ovals.
Six road courses.
Six street circuits.
All 18 races are coming to you on FOX.
Freedom 250 INDYCAR race at Washington, D.C., announced at executive order signing at The White House. Roger Penske and Penske Corporation's Bud Denker at the announcement.

Roger Penske: "President Trump has bestowed an incredible distinction upon our sport and we’re grateful for his trust and support as IndyCar prepares to honor our country with a tremendous racing spectacle."
The Washington race weekend for INDYCAR will be Aug. 21-23

Important to note about DC:
-Free to general public (hopefully grandstands are built in time)
-Will be broadcasted on FOX
-2nd Milwaukee race will be dropped for this street race

I'm so pumped up for this season.
I'm excited for the DC race too. I really hope the Capitol and area surrounding it aren't cheapened with ads though.
Losing Herta to F2/F1 stinks. But I'm now fully onboard behind our 'Murican Chili's Bro Kyle Kirkwood! Maybe he can keep getting better on the ovals.
I am expecting a major bounceback season from Scotty Mac and the Thirsty Threes. I would not be surprised if he pushes Palou to win it all. He took some of Power's crew and some of my favorite Indycar podcasters say he's really focused.
Speaking of Power, it is going to be really interesting to see him at Andretti and not constrained by Penske's PR department.
I also expect Lundgaard to make another jump forward to the front of the pack.
I would like to see Rossi do the same, but I am not certain the ECR car has the pace.

Never been a Team Penske fan, for a specific reason that goes all the way back to the CART days. I am not rooting for any of those guys, even Lil Dave, who I rooted for previously.
So I am rooting for Power to have a great season. And I like Kirkwood as well.
I think we're all super tired of Palou domination. I wanted to see how he would do in F1, but I guess that ship has sailed.
Yeah F2 guys like Lundgaard are interesting. I'm rooting for Mick to do well.

I'm always in awe of Dixon and his ability to come back from an early-race incident and end up winning the race.
I want Pato to win it all and get a chance in F1. It would be a huge loss for IndyCar though.

I like Malukas and I think Scotty Mac is cool. I'm pretty neutral about Josef.
I think everyone would like to see Power have a great season, and, yes, I agree about Palou's domination.
Lundgaard really took a step forward in terms of consistency last season. He didn't have a DNF. But he still seems to be struggling to find much consistency on the ovals.
Speaking of ovals, how awesome was Rasmussen's win at Milwaukee last season? He was driving like a man possessed! I hope we see some more fire from him, and Santino too, on those short ovals.
Daly is trying to find a seat. That's all I know. I haven't listened to his podcast in a while.

Rossi once said the three things Pato loves are "jets, sushi, and boobies." I think we all like those three things. I'm sure we'll have a race in Mexico City one day because of him.

Power unchained should be fun to watch. And not just on track
Also. With F1 going to Apple and viewers are tired of chasing all these streamers - its a golden opportunity for Indy (and Nascar) to increase viewers. I just wish there were 6 to 8 more Indycar races in the year. Maybe even 10 more.
They have a chance to increase viewership with F1 screwing up. Likewise, F1 has bad timing. New car this year. New USA based team. That alone would have drawn more viewers but many F1 watchers are going to skip it. And those race fans will watch more of Indycar and Nascar. Could be a huge momentum changer if they increase viewers in Indycar.

Is Prema back this year? They missed the media days this week. Strong rumors that another team will take their spots and Grosjean and Daly will be back.
I like Scotty Mac and the thirsty threes, seems like a fun dude to drink a beer with.
Freedom 250 should be an awesome event. I wonder if it will be a one time only thing. I expect it to have an awesome gold trophy.

Advertisers are already calling to get involved. This will be great for the sport. Will get so much vis.
Even Indy 500 will do more viewers this year. With F1 in Apple only and Nascar on Prime only - that makes Indy500 on Fox the only race widely shown that day.
Adding this new race in iconic DC with its backdrop will only grow the sport by leaps.
