Several of the escapees were awaiting trial or facing serious charges at the time of their escape:
Brogan was scheduled for a May 11 trial on a second-degree murder charge tied to a 2022 shooting in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Taplin faced first-degree murder and attempted murder charges connected to a 2020 Plank Road shooting, with his next court date set in April.
Looney had multiple felony cases pending in Lafayette Parish and prior convictions for burglary and property damage in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Vicknair, originally from Mississippi and residing in Lafayette, was connected to a 2023 homicide case and awaiting sentencing on related charges.
One of the escapees, Krisean Salinas, 21, is from St. Mary Parish and has a documented arrest history there, including charges last year related to aggravated flight from an officer, theft, reckless operation, improper lane usage and other vehicle-related offenses. He was also booked on multiple warrants from Morgan City, Terrebonne Parish and Houma.
East Carroll is about as far from any of those places as you can get and still be in Louisiana. A lot of these rural sheriffs run their jails as a moneymaking proposition and house prisoners from elsewhere.

We'll see what they are made of if they are still in the area.

Is there a bet page for this? Who are the favorites?

Yep, and also tend to be the most corrupt. Two previous sheriffs there were federally indicted, one for fixing private prison contracts and the other for giving firearms to a convicted felon.
That hellscape of Lake Providence also has one of the worst speed traps

And it’s an absolute fricking pain in the arse for defense attorneys. Not only is it an aggravation to get them in town for a visit, but it’s a crapshoot of whether they will show up to court dates.
