Football Will Be a Relic Before the Next Century and Here’s Why

Football’s heading the way of horse racing—once the center of everything, now mostly a faded memory beyond a few big races (Churchill Downs, etc).
Same thing’s happening with football. Parents are pulling kids from tackle over concussions and CTE fears. Youth tackle numbers have dipped 17% since 2010 (last recorded figures).
Fewer boys grow up playing tackle football, so fewer carry that lifelong passion forward. The pros stay a spectacle, but the deep cultural hold slips away generation by generation.
3 or 4 more generations (75-100 years) and it’ll be niche: occasional massive events, but not the epicenter of American life like it is now.
Who plays turns into who cares. Just like horse racing, as we have less and less of a personal connection, we will drastically lose interest.

It’s the sport of kings
Better than diamond rings.

Low income people will play as long as it’s legal. The government will have to outlaw it before low income People will stop playing. And the majority of the NFL probably comes from low income. So you’re gonna need like literal government intervention. I’m not saying it won’t happen but that’s what it’s gonna take.

I couldn’t care less about college football now. Anyone who watches that trash must have a very low IQ.
Of course we have an idiot president who’s pardoning his childhood heroes so maybe it hangs around.

I don’t watch college football to improve my IQ. I watch it because it’s entertaining.

Nothing. I misinterpreted your post. Sorry.

Not sure if this is true or not. But it’s on the decline. Pro and college. It is generating a lot of money, so that will keep it going a while. But the actual sport is becoming garbage.

Football will definitely not be a major sport in 100 years. As the op pointed out, less youth participation will lead to less viewers in another 3 generations. Then it becomes a niche activity. And the safety issues will keep rearing its head to change rules etc.
Our generation may not like it but soccer will take over within the next 3 generations. I know that’s been said for years and it’s been said because it’s happening. My town did not have soccer leagues or in schools when I moved here in the mid 80’s. Now, 40 years later and every field in town is now used for soccer leagues.

Youth participation rates have been yo-yoing, but generally recovering since COVID.
The real decline was the period before targeting, where cerebro-spinal injuries really threatened the game. There are as many kids playing football today in High School as there were in 1975-- and this is an era with a lot fewer kids overall.

I don’t think football will see a decline and every other sport increases. I think it’s more that team sports in general see a decrease as society becomes less social and interest in coaching and officiating decreases because of dealing with parents

As soon as AI starts designing plays and calling plays against the other team's AI, basically an AI vs AI chess match with human chess pieces, it's over. And I think that's only a few years away, beginning already.

Most of us won't be around to find out if you are correct or not.
Sports where men attempt to impose physical superiority over other men have been around for thousands of years.
Gladiators, jousting, boxing, wrestling, etc.
Football has been around for barely 100 years.
I think people will eventually tire of simulated violence (video games) and want to see actual violence where real blood is drawn.

In general youth football numbers are not decreasing, so I think we will be fine in that aspect. My worry is it becomes more like flag football and any good hitting becomes a thing of the past, which I would then completely lose interest.

American life/society won’t have an epicenter. That’s what you’re missing or glossing over
