That Panthers team had an incredible record but was always a paper tiger. They played an easy schedule and caught a lot of breaks. Honestly one of the most random Super Bowl runs in recent memory for me.

I mean, that's kind of a huge compliment to Cam though, right? They had 9 plays with Ted Ginn and Philly Brown as their top 2 WRs and he still won MVP and almost dragged them to a championship. Dude was unbelievable until that Pittsburgh injury permanently fricked him up.

fricking Mike Shula. How he still gets coaching jobs is beyond me.

Uh...why do you think they only had 9 plays?

Not a compliment.

NFL QB play has been proven to operate on a dumbed down level for years and years now to adjust to the crop of QBs flooding the League from College.

Cam famously couldn't get the playbook with the Patriots. Story was that Mac Jones came in to camp week one and already knew the playbook better than Cam, who had been there 2 yrs.

That's why he never played after that. Plus, he was shot physically.

After the shoulder injury his deep ball sucked. He couldnt do enough with the short and intermediate stuff to stay a starter.

a. Then why have defenses reached insane levels of complexity and scheme?

b. How can offense operate at all with these insane defenses?

No Aqib Talib thread is complete without mentioning his year as one of the worst color analysts of all time.

Offenses have an inherent advantage. Thats without even getting into the rule changes.

Tom Brady has said it multiple times that QB play has been dumbed down exponentially.

Just go watch a game from 2015 or so and watch how many checks and audibles are called at the line by the QB. The watch today. It's Baoacally nonexistent.

When Phillips Rivers came back, it was like a time warp with all the line calls. It was so attention-getting because you never see or hear that anymore and you used to hear it all the time.

Now, QBs basically just run what the OC tells them in the helmet mic and don't deviate if/when the defense changes the formation right before the snap.

Yet if their receivers had caught balls and kicker didn't suck they would have lost, talib has always been an idiot

Not Ty Simpson. He checks and audibles to a fault

Was it as bad as Jason Witten?

Witten doesn't really bother me. He gets a bit too enthusiastic at times which was the opposite of Talib. He came off slow and dumb.
