These people have tied themselves so into “peace” that it has become a race to see who can outdo the next person. I’ll agree this is bungled when we send troops to occupy Iran. Until then, what has happened since the weekend has been mild.

I'm not sure "terrorist" is the world, but I do feel most of the deaths directly attributed to a nation's government... we'd certainly be at or near the top. And war is easily one of our most lucrative businesses as a nation.

I had no idea who Dave Smith was until he eviscerated Chris Cuomo on stage over his Covid coverage. There is overlap with conservatives and libertarians on some issues like this. I enjoyed seeing Cuomo get called out for being the POS hypocrite that he is.
And then libertarians inevitably go full retard with their views on damn near ever other issue of substance where they cannot see the forest for the trees and are dogmatically obsessed with their unrealistic views on the world.

There's always the possibility that we destabilize Iran which leads to more conflict without necessarily putting boots on the ground. And we know from history that the seeds of conflict with these Muslim extremists don't necessarily bear fruit immediately. Sometimes that fruit blossoms decades after the actions being analyzed now

I was an am pro-Smith. I think he lost his mind about the middle of last year with Israel Derangement Syndrome.
While I disagree with him on some issues, he's being whole consistent with his anti-war isolationist viewpoints.

I have oft-criticized Dave Smith, too.
He's the typical "muh CIA" guy. I've always criticized/mocked those people. The issue is many MAGA posters on here have spent years promoting the "Deep State" Theory, which aligns with the "muh CIA" stuff directly.
However, now Trump and his admin are 100% promoting the "Deep State" which conflicts with Dave Smith (and the prior stances of many, vicariously)

I like Dave and I think he's a very intelligent person. He's a very good debater and knows his stuff inside and out. He has a chip on his shoulder because I think he gets looked down a lot by a lot of people in this field because he is a comedian.
That being said, my biggest gripe with him and these Mearsheimer types are that nothing is ever Iran's, China's, Russia's, etc.'s fault.
The US is always the instigator in every conflict and they act like these countries are just sitting back, minding their own business while the US is bullying everyone.
I'm not a fan of every foreign policy decision we've ever made, but to act like we are the only ones ever in the wrong is laughable.

I watched most of that Piers show and it was very difficult listening to Smith......dude thinks he's an expert in ME geopolitics. He had some valid points but it was obvious he wants this operation to fail for his own purposes of "I told you so."

Theoretically possible, and this has always been the philosophy of the DEMs/Left re: Iran. I am hopeful the DEMs are proven right on this issue, but I pushed that hope to the side a while back and am much more in a "show me" status now.
The problem is that even if half the population wants real reform, there is a huge population who won't, and we know what Muslims will do even if they're a minority population. I just don't see how sectarian violence is avoided without installing a complete authoritarian state, which just puts us back to 1953 (and I don't see how history doesn't repeat itself).
