October Temperature Averages:

High 56°F
Low 25°F
All time High 87°F
All time Low -9°F
Average Monthly Rainfall: 1.5”
Average Monthly Snowfall: 1.9”

The Wyoming State Motto is “The Wind Here Doesn’t Blow, It Sucks”

Be ready for wind, low humidity, direct sun and decently large temperature ranges (variations) in a 24 hour period.

Fly fishing, hike in grand Teton, rent bikes and ride from Teton village to town and back, rafting (might not be enough water flow)

Hermit nailed it. Get in several hikes in Grand Teton National Park, A drift trip down one of the rivers for fly fishing if the water is deep enough, bike riding through the area to check out wildlife, enjoy the beauty of the area.

Early October weather is fantastic. I will say, and its been a couple years, but things start to close down in mid October until Ski season. So if you go in mid to late October some things maybe closed. Its their in between season.

But September to early October is the best time of year IMO. Great weather, animals are moving around, leaves are changing or falling, crowds are reasonable, etc.

There's a big difference in early October vs late October. That will be your number 1 driver of what is available to do

It’s a crapshoot honestly. It could be 0 degrees and blizzard conditions or it could be in the 50’s. Just make plans and then also have a backup plan in case the weather turns out to be different than planned.

We went white water rafting in Jackson during the summer. Water was still cold but they have wet suits. Highly recommend.

You've got a high probability of finding out why it is much cheaper to visit during this time.

All the leaves will be off the trees and enough snow to make most activities inaccessible but not enough to actually do anything in the snow.

With all this said, it is a beautiful place, and you will still have fun.

We went mid September last year. The week we left snow was coming and shite was closing. I’d change to last week sept or first week October.

Maybe but not really likely. That's still fairly early for any decent snow. We used to go in early to mid October when my FIL owned a place there in Teton Village. Snow in the mountains but the valley was always fine.

It was very much still fall weather.

People just really underestimate the weather in Wyoming and Montana during the late fall. It can be extreme. You can get snow in the mountains damn near 12 months of the year, snow in May and October is more normal a couple times than abnormal for sure.

But like I said the biggest issue with October is that things start to shut down. Its not a MAJOR issue, things are still open for the most part. But I know they shut the Gondola down in Teton Village in October until ski season. Taking the lift up to hike around and just enjoy the views, a beer up the mountain, etc. is fantastic.

The good thing though is that it won't be very busy.
