This is the old Accurate Miniatures kit. Great kit that’s been fun to work on. No decals have been used - I used Kit Masx mask set for the Truk Lagoon raid birds. I have always wanted to paint markings and I sort of had to because the kit had no decals. The finished product will be posted later.

Painted in MRP lacquers with the exception of the interior green, which is Atom by Mig acrylics.

Interior: bronze green and interior green. Also note the detailed engine.

Start of painting over the black basing method

Continuing painting: intermediate blue is down. White on bottom, sea blue on upper surfaces.

Masking on bottom and top:

Masks removed. Some touchups are needed due to my fault. It was very hard to get the register right so it’s a little off:

Oh hell yeah.

One of my favorite navy birds.

I love the .50 cal gun turret under the tail.

It’s a big plane. I’ll include shots of the 50. Weathering is next. Also will try to paint exhaust stains, which is another first for me. Too many mistakes with the marking, but this was a test subject.

That was a .30. The .50 was in the turret, the .30 was on the bottom of the fuselage towards the rear.

No big deal, but I tend to notice details like that.

The .50 was probably too heavy to be operated in that position.

That’s outstanding work. I built this kit several years ago. Really fun build. Where did you get the decal masking?

Thanks, Darth!!

From a company called Kit Masx. I did testing for their Dauntless set and sent one free of charge. They do awesome work. I’ll get another set soon.

Here is their site:

Wo. Thanks for think link. They’ve got a bunch of masks and their prices are great. Looks like it time to do some shopping.

I didn’t know that.
Thanks for the correction.

I see double barrels and I’m just thinking .50.

Nice catch.

Hell yes it is.

1/48 always is.

That’s why I stick with One72 unless I build the balsa models.

The damn cockpit glass is incredibly big.

Nice masking.

I’ve built the Guillows balsa flying Avenger.

Can’t wait to see this piece finished.

You put the three tone paint on it and that’s my favorite mark up too.

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure it was the largest single engine aircraft produced during WWII, even larger than the P-47.

That’s one big-assed bird.

They do. Great customer service. I have an Accurate Miniatures Dauntless kit with no decals. I contacted them to see if they had one for the AM kit - they did not. So they said if I’d test theirs designed for the Academy kit, they’d give me a set.

Which is the one below.

Even though Flight 19 were TBM’s, you could put one of their numbers on it. With all the alien stuff coming out, they may show up.

Edited to give you the numbers

The aircraft were three TBM-1Cs (BuNo 45714, 'FT3'; BuNo 46325, 'FT81'; BuNo 73209, 'FT117'), one TBM-1E (BuNo 46094, 'FT36'); and one TBM-3 (BuNo 23307, 'FT28').

Kit Mask doing work!

So glad to know that there are still people that care about this.

I was beginning to think model building would just fade out.

Incredible hobby.

I have the Hasegawa 1/48 scale B-25 in my model desk right now. I think I might try out their US insignia masking on it.

I don’t think they’re US based. They have a message at the top of their screen that their masks now ship tariff free to the US.

Found it:
Canadian.

Kit Masx, 2257 Wilkinson Street, Kelowna BC V1Y 7Z2, Canada

Kelowna BC is incredible.

Deep in the Canadian Rockies.

No wonder why they like flying.

When youre up on those mountains, you feel like an airman.
