At 3 a.m. (CT) Saturday morning, TCM will be showing the movie The Beginning Or the End. It's probably the best/most realistic story of the Manhattan Project. It was made shortly after World War II and shows the real people involved with the Manhattan Project.

Some revisionist history-types believe it was pure propaganda, put out by the war department. And, to a certain extent, it definitely shows the pro-atomic side of developing and dropping the bomb. But for those who are interested in the history of the Manhattan Project (e.g., Oppenheimer fans), it’s a must see.

Same time as the count stoppage in 2020.

Coincidence?

I trust it's being shown at other times, right?

With TCM, you never know. It could be a number of months before they show it again. Perhaps they’ll show it again in the beginning of August.

When I had cable I used to love chasing down times when stuff was scheduled to play .

Especially football game replays.

Good times.

Every two weeks or so, I go through the next two weeks of TCM to see if there’s anything I want to DVR. I usually tape about a dozen or so movies over that two weeks.

Ackshewly, it's the least accurate. The bombmaking process was still superduper secret (we were unaware the Russians had gotten info from Fuchs) so for security purposes the film shows a totally inaccurate process for making the bomb.

Have you seen Day One (1989)? IMHO it's the best depiction of tMP, despite a relatively weak (& very WASPy) Oppenheimer

The Manhattan Project's Hanford Site near Richland, Washington, was a massive, top-secret World War II facility established in 1943 to produce plutonium. It housed the world's first industrial-scale nuclear reactors, including the B Reactor, which created the plutonium for the Trinity test and Nagasaki bomb. Richland served as a planned residential community for thousands of workers.

My father-in-law was the project manager of the Hanford Site and my husband was born in Richland. The government sends letter occasionally to see how my husband is doing as they fear the milk the kids drank might have been tainted.
