Our office area doubles as our "gym". We have a bunch of dumbells in various weights and they take up a lot of room.

We are looking at the BowFlex Results Series SelectTech Dumbbells and wondering if anyone has any experience with them? Pros/cons. I like how it has 1/2 pound options and they dont take up very much space. Any insight would e apprecited!

I've had an older version for probably ten years with no issues with the weight dial. Depends if you have dummies in the group that will slam them down or something I guess.

Because of how wide they are, it's awkward to do standing dumbbell curls and lat raises. But otherwise you get used to the way they feel and they're fine.

Have them in my home gym for 4 years now.

Pros
Do not have to have a bunch of solid dumbbells of different weights or plates you have to take off and on.

Very quick to change weight with dials

Cons
One time cost is high

Mine only go up to 52.5 lbs. I needed a low weight range for kids and wife, thus the choice.

They are wide, have to get use to that. Not a con after you get used to it.

No issues with them, and really glad of my choice after messing my shoulder up that has limited my barbell usage recently.

We have two sets in our office gym. One set goes up 52.5 lbs, the other 90lbs.

The 90 lbs set, the handles are not round, and hurt the frick out of my hands when overhead pressing or doing flat dumbbell bench press.

But overall they're not bad. The size of where the weights are can be kind of cumbersome when doing something like hammer curls as you can't get as much range of motion as you would with a regular dumbbell.

We got ours off of Facebook Marketplace for a great price around the time of year that the New Years Resolutioners give up on their "New Year New Me" phase.

ETA: be aware that the dial will often bind up. So you have to remove all the weights from the handle to reset the dial. Kind of a pain sometimes if you're in the middle of a workout.

I have the OG bowflex dial dbs. 12-13 years now. Still work and look just as good as the day I got them. As long as you dont slam them or drop them they will last forever.

On my second set of the original Bowles dumbbells. First set lasted me 15 years or so and survived numerous moves until they finally bit the dust and the dial wouldn’t click onto any weight anymore. New set is from 2020 and I got the stands this time and they work like a charm with zero issues. Takes a few sessions to get used to but it’s not bad. The handles can get slick if you sweat a lot like myself so I wrap them with a little athletic tape and it’s not an issue.

I know from a space standpoint the “all-in-one” DBs are the go-to but man, I love my 5-75 lb rubber hex. They look great and you can’t beat a real DB.
