Lee Cronin’s The Mummy

I went in with low expectations and I thoroughly enjoyed this flick. Lots of body horror, lots of gore, but the main characters were very well done. The acting I thought was very good and it was a really neat take on the entire mummy’s curse. It’s not for everyone at all for sure but it’s a very worthy horror film

I had high hopes, but it just wasn’t for me. It’s really more of an Evil Dead movie than a mummy movie. In fact it’s not a mummy movie at all, at least not in the truest sense. The gore and body horror was pretty extreme, which I’m not a huge fan of, but the acting and practical effects were very good. Not a terrible movie by any means, but not my cup of tea. If you don’t go in anticipating a reboot of the mummy franchise, you’ll probably like it, and if you’re a fan of the director’s Evil Dead films, you’ll love it.

It’s pretty much its own thing and has nothing to do with the 1999 film

Sounds very similar to the most recent wolf man movie

I agree. The recent Wolf Man movie tried to go its own way by reimagining the werewolf curse as a virus. No full moon. No silver bullets. It looks like Lee Cronin tried to do something similar with his approach to the mummy. I can appreciate that, but all he succeeded in creating is a mash up of The Exorcist and The Mummy that feels an awful lot like an Evil Dead movie.

Saw the previews before Hail Mary. did not make me want to see it.

I’ve been at least curious about this one and Hokum. I adore the original evil dead movies (and like army of darkness) and the 2013 remake just didn’t hit for me so I haven’t given Rise a shot (the one Cronin directed).

In a way, yes, but this one far out does that film. Yes, it’s very much like evil dead. Lee Cronin has made masterful films with James Wan.

It definitely ups the gross out factor. I made the mistake of going to an evening showing at Alamo Drafthouse and tried to eat while watching it. Bad idea.

I watched the trailer. Looks like a run of the mill “exorcist” remake with “Mummy” slapped on as an after effect.
Didn’t look too good, although I am not a body horror fan.

It’s basically evil dead with a sprinkle of exorcist but the story and characters I thought were well done. You can tell it was cut up something fierce, probably a runtime issue. But still it had enough new stuff to make the story work.

It probably shouldn't, but the unearned vanity title is a real turn off watching this.

When will Universal start making the updated modern versions of their great horror classics??

I think that Tom Cruise's Mummy movie killed Universal's plans to reboot their classic monsters.

Who does clown think he is - John Carpenter?

Apparently it was only done that way because of the news of the Brenden Fraser movies. Besides, he is a name in the horror world.
