I just started the final season and I was looking some stuff up online and noticed that the last episode of season 5 aired in June of 2004 and Season 6 started back up almost two years later in March 2006. What took so long?

And in the middle of season 6, why did they take another ten months off?

I remember a lot of talk about the delays, but I never found the cause of them. I'm ready for a Soprano's Movie!! Gotta be coming.

The reason it was delayed was the actors wanting more money

On the spoiler thing, what are you talking about?

Not according to David Chase in his book, nor HBO.

After the last episode, there was some speculation that one option for a soprano movie would be a prequel to the series possibly back to when Tony's dad was alive.

I've read it was delayed for two reasons. One the cast wanted more money, specifically, Gandolfini and Chase needed the layoff to right season 6. Season 5 was suppose to be the last until half way through they decided to make a sixth.

The bigger actors had already renegotiated their contracts before Gandolfini filed suit to get more money. He worked out a deal with HBO, but that wasn't the reason for the long break between seasons.

Chase mostly needed the time to go back to the drawing board. My gripe about the return is that they knew they couldn't conclude all the story lines in a full season, and threw in stuff like the Johnny Cakes subplot as filler.

I thought that would be an interesting story.

never said he was dead, that was the whole point of the music and family gathering. It was up to the person watching to put what they wanted in the end

I am torn on what would make a better movie. Soprano's prequel or a continuation from the end of the series.

With a prequel, there would have to be a new cast to go back so far in time. With a continuation, most of the crew is dead and aside from a court case there is not much more they could throw at Tony that we have not already seen. I guess they could have a movie that took place within the time frame of the series and include characters that have since been killed off. As much as I loved the series, I think it will be hard to make a movie that lives up to the expectations that will be set for it.

This is a pretty good point. What else could you do with the series? Have some new fight with New York - old story. You could have another rival organized crime group, hispanic or something but that is a little cheesy. Court case would take away from it. You look who is left in the final 5 minutes of the show - Tony, his wife and kids and that is it. Not much to go forward with.

I just got finished season 4. Everyone talks about how it tailed off after season 3 and 4, but I thought this season kicked arse (especially the intervention episode). Doesn't really drop off in season 5 and 6 or is it just bs?

As for a prequel, I think it could kick arse, but they would have to have an entire new cast.
