Years ago I asked this question to a small group of basketball fans. There were both men and women there. It got heated. Here is the hypothetical:

Take the very best male HS basketball team in the US today. Take the very best WNBA team today. Who would win?

No offense to women out there, but traditionally men jump higher/run faster/throw harder/etc. than women

I had a roommate one time that thought the LSU Women's team could hang with the LSU Men's team. What a dumbass.

Mens team would win. The top team in the country probably has 2 or 3 guys that end up in the NBA. They would just be too physical.

i played one-on-one with this "star" high school girl player, who held scolorship offers from bug east schools, and as a sophomore i bet her with ease, and i love when me and my mom used to argue, that women's basketball isn't that great.

i remember as a 7th grader going down to the high school gym to challenge the girls varsity team and beating the shite out of them each and every time. amazing how slow and unathletic girls really are

I had an epic argument about this once at a job I had in NYC. They had some REAL dumbasses arguing against me. It was considered outrageously misogynistic and stupid of me to make the following claim:

Any NFL team could field a 5-person basketball team that would easily win the WNBA by a huge margin.

I took it a step farther and said I thought any NFL team could field a FOUR-man basketball team and STILL win.

I then claimed that a club team from my place of business would beat the Duke's women team that had just won the title by at least 35 points. That club team had 2 Division I starters on it as well as a big black guy that used to play in the CBA. Again, I was considered to be actually insane for making these remarks. They even went so far as to track down the point guard of the club team to solicit his opinion in order to embarrass me. His offhand answer was he thought they would beat Duke by at least 40 and that they could probably easily win the WNBA.

I'll take Lebron James (HS year) over any WNBA MVP any day of the year.

If we are talking about a team like Oak Hill against a WNBA team, I think they would probably win by 20-25 points. Just look at the guys that have passed through that program over the past four or five years. Carmelo, Durant, Nolan Smith, Michael Beasley, Alex Legion, Jamont Gordon. The entire rotation at Oak Hill normally goes on to play major college basketball. I think they could hang with most bubble teams in the NCAA, and those are obviously better than WNBA teams.

I do think that the best WNBA team could beat a team like Christian Life though.

Where are all the feminists up in here defending their gender?

Years ago I read an interview with Chris Evert. It was shortly after Billy Jean King beat a nursing home patient named Bobby Riggs. Evert was at the top of her game and was asked where she would rank among male players.
She was totally honest. She said, "My brother is not in the top 100 male players. I can't beat my brother at tennis."

I believe the Williams sisters have been issued an open challenge by like the 200th ranked men's player in the world. They haven't taken him up.
