So I got kinda board waiting for the the NFL draft to start and began looking at previous drafts...
Probably no surprise to most of you, but LSU has cranked out a lot of NFL wideouts in recent years...in fact, 7 have come out of Baton Rouge in the past five years.
What you may not know is that not only is this the most WR from any school in the past five years, but this is the most draft picks at ANY position from a single school in the last five years.
With Brandon Lafell and likely Terrance Toliver to follow, I think that it is safe to say...
Reuben Randle, good call my man.

Yep...positive.
We've sent 8 DL (4 DE's and 4 DT's) over the same period, so you could say we've sent more linemen. But by position, WR is king.

Wonder if D. Byrd will continue the streak this draft, or if he'll be a UFA?

Wow, I'm really suprised no one has ever pointed that out before to me. Nice post.

When I mentioned TT and Lafell, I completely omitted Byrd. Definitely not intentional.
It seemed like everyone was saying that his 40 time would determine if/where he gets picked. He ran two good 40s at the combine and pro day, so I think he gets drafted.

This applies to more than football WRs...but where the hell does Louisiana get all the athletic talent? >_>
Granted, a lot of my information is hearsay and some possibly stretched assumptions off of observations...but we all know about LA's football talent. I can name a few NBA players from Louisiana -- Danny Granger, Glen Davis, Tyrus Thomas off the top of my head, and there are bound to be more, I imagine. And with all the decent to amazing college baseball teams at Louisiana colleges, I can't help but think most of that talent came from Louisiana.
So where does it all come from? >_>

It defintly seems like LA produce a lot of really good collegiate and pro atheletes per capita. Not just over the past couple of years, but the last couple of decades.
Like you, I don't have any data to back it up (I think I might take a look at that one day). But I would suspect that there is a disproportionatly large number of athelets coming off the boot.
It's gotta be the gumbo!

Louisiana has a high black population, that is why. No, I'm not being racist and yes it is a fact. Yes, black people tend to be more athletic, you all know it as well as I. Some guys probably wanted to jump around that but its a big reason why. Nothing wrong with it at all.
I'd argue it has something to do with the way of life down here too but I'm sure I'd get some dumbass yankee in here arguing we're snobs for saying so. They don't understand because they don't live here.

there are not alot of things to do in louisiana. the majority of the population is on the bottom of the average U,S. income. that leaves little money for alot of entertainment. it doesnt cost alot to get a ball and find a hoop. same with baseball and football. i spent every summer of my life playin sports. whatever season it was i was playin that sport. same for alot of us here. when you play that much and dont have alot of distractions and options for other things to do, you get a little better than average.
