Good for him. I think it is well deserved.

Helenihi outperformed Hollander but was kept on the bench for the veteran leadership. When it was his turn, veteran presence counted for nothing.

The biggest argument in Nola's favor is the team's record in games he starts (because his offense is atrocious and his defense is not that big of an upgrade over LeMaheiu). A nifty stat:

LSU record when...

...Nola starts 15-5
... Helenihi starts 14-4

Just sayin'. I don't think he should start, but Helenihi gets a bad rap. Helenihi's line is 292/382/431. Hell, that's better than Hanover's 315/347/431.

after that HR he's hitting right around .300...

Guess he made up for those 60 games in one AB.

Nola vs SEC play

Helenihi vs shitty OOC teams

See above.

plus
Hanover- FR
Helenihi- SR

And Hanover has been one of our best run producers.

I think Hanover is better as well, but I do not buy the line that Helenihi is a terrible hitter. And I really don't think Nola is ready. He's been overmatched by SEC pitchers. He's probably going to be a great player for us. Just not now.

Helenihi certainly has a gripe. He certainly should be playing a larger role, especially given our problems hitting lefties. I think we'd be better off with Helenihi in a platoon, facing only lefties.

I could see DH playing versus lefty starters in place of Mitchell.

You're taking it to extremes. You are going from saying the guy hasnt done anything for 60 games and doesnt deserve some time playing in the outfield against lefties....to saying he shouldnt be playing ahead of Hanover. Im assuming that's what you were saying.

I would definately not have a problem with Shimpf, Mahtook and Helenihi in the OF against lefties...at least some of the time. And Helenihi does play a very good 3b also.

I read a blog post not too long ago with a suspiciously similar thesis..

he really hasnt done much

he struggled the last half of last year and at the beginning of this year and just lately has started to make some contact.

why do you think he lost his job earlier this year?

he was hitting like .240's and had like 1 extra base hit in 15 games or so. He was horrible.

and no way he should be playing ahead of Hanover. Hanover has sparked our team once he entered the lineup. We were in quicksand with Helenhi out there.

and our record with Helenihi starting compared to Nola is extremely misleading. EXTREMELY.

Who said he should be starting ahead of Hanover? That was an extreme that you put out there.

And you dont hit .292 (.300 after today) while being "horrible"...I think a big problem was he wasnt coming thru in alot of key situations. Again...I think you're being too extreme. You even finally admitted with baloo that he should see some more time (ie platoon)...are you changing that position?

He's only had 66 Abs...so even if he was hitting .240...it's not "horrible" considering he's a very good defensive player. And we played against quite a few lefty pitchers early in the season if i remember correctly. I know UK came at us with a couple to start the season.

HAHA..nm about the lefty pitchers...forgot Helenihi was a right...

i just commented on that.

more time to me is pinch hits against lefthanders. He doesnt deserve to start. We have too many better options.
