Possible LSU vs. Ole Miss 1st round game

Is anyone else irritated over the prospect of this. I know it's not even close to being a done deal but why the committee decided to place a possible first round matchup of the two SEC champs is beyond ridiculous.
Didn't know if it bothered anyone else like it does for me.

not really, they had to place 8 SEC teams in the brackets, they separated them about as well as they could, they couldn't worry about a possible world series matchup between conference teams, it would irritate me a little more if it was a regional matchup, but this is very common

Ole Piss would have to beat WKU tonight and UVA 2/3, which I know if both things will happen.

With 8 SEC teams in, you think this could be avoided?

It's impossible to get it perfect where conference opponents don't meet in the post season. If both get to Omaha then it would be a nice game to get it started. Gotta be ready and willing to play any body at that point

Not avoided. But to think that the team we're matched up against happens to be the champion from the same conference in the same division. Seems like the committee could have gone other routes that were less likely to occur within the conference.

They could have put the SEC #1 and #2 on difference sides of the bracket...
When was the last time Duke and UNC were put in the same Regional Bracket in basketball??

Seeding teams and worry about possible conference match-ups in the CWS would be nearly impossible. They managed to have only 1 possible SEC vs SEC super regional match-up. At some point you just have to let chips fall where they may.

I don't have a problem with matching up with an SEC team in the first round of the CWS, but you would think they would have put the SEC co-champs on opposite sides of the bracket. Ole Miss should have been on Florida's side of the bracket.
Oh well, it is what it is.

But initially, the three teams from the conference with the seemingly best chances of making the CWS were LSU, OM, and UF based on their seedings. So it seems like a matchup with Arkansas or South Carolina as a possibility would make more sense than Ole Miss.

The way I see it... once they're in Omaha, it doesn't matter which team came from what conference. It's every man for himself.
There's just no way the NCAA can project that far ahead in a baseball tournament, and they shouldn't be expected to do so in order to favor any particular conference's potential matchup(s).

I would agree with you if it was any other team in the conference. Just don't get why the co-champs are a possible first round CWS game is all. Seems like there were a lot of SEC routes they could have taken.

The first round of the CWS is equivalent to the Elite Eight in the Basketball Tourney. You're shitting yourself if the NCAA would have two of the ACC's best teams that year in the same Region.

to be fair, they did put florida on the other side of the bracket, which was the best team in the East, so they did separate it somewhat, I have no problem with the way they handled it

I hear what you are saying, but using that logic Ole Miss wasn't projected to make it to the CWS, UC Irvine was. If they have to start breaking down "possibilities", taking in to account upsets, it just gets impossible to do. The SEC had 2 top 8 teams, and the committee separated them. That's really all you can ask.

The notion of Duke and UNC sharing the conference titles in basketball and meeting in the same regional bracket is ridiculous. Don't see how this is really much different.

They did do that. I didn't think they deserved a national seed to begin with despite their RPI Top 50 wins. Just seems strange the conference champs would be paired like that.

The first round game on the other side of the bracket could pit Clemson vs North Carolina. Boston College-Georgia Tech was also a possibility.

Yeah but the World Series is more like the final four in which case, there is many times when teams from the same conference play each other in the final four.
The only real complaint here would be if they were paired up in the super regional which would in fact be dumb.

Well FSU won the ACC so I don't think that's a similar comparison.
