1) $1.7 TRILLION??? No idea it was THAT big.
2) The characters are portrayed as being a bunch of Jed Clampetts. Is that the way it really is?
3) I caught just a little bit of it on Fox Business. Something about regulating frac'ing. I assume there are questions about the safety of pumping a bunch of stuff under the ground with groundwater or something. I also assume this regards Haynesville Shale, but I'm not sure. Any idea what this is about?

Yeah it's pretty much an extraction technique that's essential for production in all shale fields. I think there's a bill sitting in Congress somewhere right now that would ban all onshore fracking, or something to that effect.

I know what fracking is, but why do they want to ban it? Environmental reasons?

Exactly what you said, contamination of the water supply. The environmental groups have been lobbying hard against it, especially in the northeast Marcellus region.

yeah im pretty sure nothing shows it damages the environment. Plus gas is cleaner than oil and coal. So it puts the dems a bind if they really try to prevent this. But it could happen. Exxon put a clause in their deal with XTO that they could walk away if regulation makes it too burdensome to continue to operate.

Research natural gas and fracking in Colorado and you will find information regarding potential links to increased cancer in the area of activity, etc, and residents point to ineptness and lack of resources by state organizations to follow through on numerous problem areas brought to their attention.

i see the movie isn't available via netflix..how long has it been out? netflix usually does a pretty good job of scarfing documentaries.

Just one that ive found but from working in the industry ive heard of several other occasions. If you knew anything about strain and faulting kinematics its not unreasonable that pumping thousands of barrels of fluid into the ground may cause earthquakes. Im pro-drilling&fraccing fyi.

isnt this a good thing to help settle and stabilize a potential fault? kinda like getting injected with a small dose of the flu so you can build an immunity? lol
