When Have Our LB's Played So Well?

They were all over the field. Did you see the incredible coverage that Perry Riley provided in the end zone on that play (it was Riley and not Sheppard, I am pretty sure. Correct me if I'm wrong. It was late.). Anyway, of course, Cutrera was like a new man. Harry Coleman got taken out of some plays, but he made his presence felt.
All in all, the LB's were much improved.
Looks like coaching to me.

I enjoyed the opportunity to watch them. They played with great resolve.

They gave it a good go.
They had the want to win.

The last time our LBs looked that solid was probably James/Faulk days.
In the 2nd half, our DEs did a much better job of containing the run and it allowed our LBs to show their ability. Hopefully, that continues.

quote:Correct. Great coverage, although it looked like he outran the reciever, and almost gave him an easy catch rather then slowing down and batting it down. But still,
it was Riley and not Sheppard, I am pretty sure
A little to far in front> way behind

They did well. Too many long runs to the outside they didn't contain tho

Everyone keeps talking about the good LB play.
Cutera played pretty well, but in the first half, when Polk got past the line of scrimmage nobody was ever there. He had 4 or 5 ten+ yard carries.
Maybe I missed it.

The '96 Peach Bowl win over Clemson?

If you think Perry Riley played well or even average than you have pretty low expectations on your LBs.

we looked fast at lb.. .ball hawking. ....after the ball was caught in the zone., now lets work on that scheme....

I agree, but one of my best friends, who is a huge tennessee fan, told me the one thing to expect is greatly improved linebacker play under chavis (this was the day he was hired). I kind of shrugged it off but when you look at the linebackers that have come out of the chavis system, i think that theres great things to come. it may not be this season, but once he impliments his style of defense and our athletes have a full grasp of it, that defense will once again be a force to reckon with.

I think alot of that was poor DE play against the run.
Seemed to me, we got good play out of our LBs and decent play out of our Secondary. DL though was quite shaky.
Isn't that bass ackwards from our normal M.O.?

Yeah. I noticed in the second half some really good penetration by the DL though. We didn't get many sacks, but the DL was getting 3 and 4 yards deep every time. Locker was throwing quickly. Also on that last drive, Locker scrambled for the first several times.
In the first half, I kept watching for Alem to take someone's head off, but he kept dropping back in zone.

More the responsibility of the DE then LB

Yeah. And the CBs. Hawkins was killing us on the freakin edge. He got better in the 2nd half.
Not many LBs are gonna catch Polk if he's able to bounce outside the damned cornerback.
