JJ is safe to a fault and yet

JJ is safe to a fault. Dude would take 100 sacks to avoid throwing even a SLIGHTLY tough ball and risk an INT(exaggeration for effect).
Last year, that shite woulda been a problem because as lousy as our defense was, we needed to be in track meets.
On the other hand, this year, while JJ causes us some issues, he largely has allowed a much better defense to keep us in games.
So, while I hope that at some point, he corrects those faults so that we can stop winning nail biters in games we should be winning by 3 TDs, it's hard to miss that his safety with the ball has been part of our winning formula thus far.
My point is, in my view, JJ is ripe to be an interception machine the way he stares things down but he manages to be smart enough to avoid em. Takes too many sacks because he's ultra careful but it beats INTs that put us in a bind.

if you actually watched the game, he made several very tight throws

It's what a lot of people fail to understand, he is not the leader of this team, he is not being asked to win ball games, he is being asked to not lose them, one day he might be that leader and go to guy, but right now, he is doing his job.

Can you blame him? He'd be crucified by all the rantards if he did what J.Lee did last year. Besides, I blame part of this on no pass protection.

Hence, "exaggeration for effect". He does tend to be slow to pull the trigger.
But, like I said, this year, that may prove to be a winning formula. IOW, it's a net good thing.

No doubt. And, if our defense was doing what last year's defense was doing, I'd bet JJ would have 6-7 INTs this year. QBs press when their defense can't stop the other team.
This year, being ultra safe with the ball is a winning formula so far because the defense is largely doing its job.
I've a feeling our offense will have to be sharper against UF though.

As he gains experience, JJ will learn to throw the ball away to avoid taking sacks. However, as you said, taking a sack is much better than throwing a pick.

He needs help with pocket awareness. He is still very raw. Under pressure, he sometimes forgets where he is and what he needs to do with the ball. The first drive of the third quarter is a perfect example. The coaches are going to have to work with him on being aware of when he needs to throw it away or take off and run. There is no doubt that he is a work in progress and needs guidance.
I would rather have JJ being cautious than the pick 6s, because of what that led to last year. A lot of desension and resentment seemed to come out of the QB problems last year. If JJ can just learn to throw it away, it will really help in the field position battle.
