I didn't get to see all of the Tulane game, but I saw a lot of plays where Peterson and Eugene were the two CBs on the field. With the exception or the one handed interception, I noticed Eugene more than Hawk in the Auburn game also.

Is Eugene overtaking Hawkins, or was that a scheme thing because we were playing teams that like to run the ball the past two weeks?

Imho Yes. He is better in run support and his coverage has not been bad at all.

Jai Eugene is the second best Cornerback on the team behind Peterson. The 2 best corners start. This move was long overdue...

I am not questioning who is better, but what the situation is at the CB position. Chris Hawkins and Jai Eugene have both played significantly better than last year. My question is, who has been starting the past two games?

I think Eugene started. The situation is that both are going to play a whole lot opposite Peterson. Hawkins has looked great at times but is not the tackler Eugene is. Who knows who plays the most against Bama.

When it comes crunch time, I'd bet on Chris playing over Jai. Chris can't tackle as well as Jai, but I'll take him in coverage any day. Big plays happen on him every once in a while, but neither Jai or Chris are as big and physical as Patrick, so that's gonna happen.

They havve been splitting time depending on the situation.

Jai: better against the run, better tackler, more physical.

Hawkins: Better cover guy, really good ball skills/hands, improving against the run

Hawkins started in Auburn, but Jai came in for the second series and played a lot from that point on, at Tulane, Jai started, but hawkins was named the starter on the video screen if tht answers the question. They have both played much better than last season and I think that the only thing that hurt Hawkins was the Green touchdown, though the coverage on that couldn't have been better, just needed a taller person on the play. For what it's worth, the same probably would've happened to Jai.

Same thing would have happened to any corner in college not named Patrick Peterson.

Against Bama I would like to see Jai start and play most (if not all) of the game due to the fact that Bama does not have a quality WR on that side of the field (let PP guard JJ all day), and Jai can stuff the run much better, which Bama will be trying the edge all day long.

I thought Hawkins has the best ups on the team? I'm not sure anyone on our roster could have stopped that catch.

Someone who would have jumped on time would have stopped that catch.

Hawkins was listed as a starter but Eugene started the game.

They are dead even in my opinion. That said, Jai is a lot more crunk so I would like to see him play.

That is easier said then done for a CB in that situation. AJ could see the ball the whole time and judge his leap accordingly. Hawkins had to find the ball and then leap. Thats a really tough play especially with AJ on his back preventing him from getting a really good burst.

Thats true, but noone can time each jump perfectly. It was a much better catch than it was bad defense. Jai is definitely better against the run and thats what we need against Bama, but when we go against a true passing team Hawkins needs to be playing.
