Was this a good or bad hire?

Is he part of the problem, an obstacle or is he a hands on AD?

Does he promote LSU in a positive manner?

So far he's been o.k. In his first major decision for the university he hired Trent Johnson so that was a good start.

He hasn't really been at the job long enough to judge IMO. He has made one hire in Trent. Time will tell and we'll see how he handles this DJ situation.

It's pretty early on to make any serious evaluation. He made a great hire in Trent Johnson, which will be even more evident in 2-3 years. So far, I don't think he's done anything to cast the university in a negative light.

He's been ok. But like it was previously stated, he hasn't been there long enough. Alos, he has to deal with some of the decisions Bertman made, ie. an 18 milloin dollar buyout.

I don't know if I like him. He seems kind of like a Chancellor Palpatine figure to me. You don't know what he's doing back there until all of a sudden it's too late and you're fricked.

He seems to be reasonably savvy and hasn't made any major frick-ups yet. Unlike a previous AD, he seems to be sober in public.

I am interested in this forums perspective of him-

and what the expectations are of him--

This next couple of years could be make or break years in the athletic depart- not only personnel but managing $$$ in a difficult economy. We all know LSU is a political environment---

The person sitting in that chair needs to have his hands firmly on the wheel and guiding this huge ship

From a monetary perspective, I think he's very capable of managing the department. Pretty sharp guy from everything I've seen/heard.

This is my gut feeling.

The Trent Johnson hire was a coup along the lines of the Saban hire. No one even knew he was available or interested and then all of a sudden one of the hottest properties out there became our coach.

I would like to see him tackle the department's broadcast operations which are, top to bottom, some of the poorest in the conference if not the country (major colleges, that is).

Also, the academic performance of our major sport athletes needs to improve. It needs to be better and this was probably part of the thinking in bringing in a Duke AD.

Joe seems to be doing ok at LSU, but it's really too early to tell for sure.

I'm not sure bout all the ins and outs of that Duke scandal or what role he played, if any, in throwing that team under the bus but that was a concern of mine at the time of his hire.

We will see.........

Alleva was given free rein to hire Johnson, if you think a football coaching decision will be his hire alone, not a chance.

What are you talking about specifically here?

You're right. Trent Johnson is constantly bringing this up. I haven't heard Miles talk about it, but he's had bigger fish to fry lately.

Seems like with that Cox academic center, free tutors, oversight, etc, this wouldn't be an issue anymore. Blows my mind that it is still.

I say so far so good.

1. Hiring Trent Johnson & calling out LSU fans to show up for games impressed me.

2. So far in the NCAA thing I've been VERY impressed. Apparently they've been investigating McCarthy & the player for a while, & its just now leaking, AFTER the season is over. Brilliant move. In comparison, look at how Alabama, yes, the great Alabama, handled the Julio fiasco. Mal Moore is a joke. I'll take Alleva any day of the week.

3. We all know, as Joe Dean once said, that the mark of a good LSU AD is 1 hire: the football coach.

My sources (grain of salt) have told me that Alleva is not a friend-o-Miles.
