And, here's the rest of the list of teams finishing below LSU in total offense:

North Carolina - recruiting (2006 - 30th, 2007 - 17th, 2008 - 32nd, 2009 - 9th)
Vanderbilt - recruiting (2006 - 60th, 2007 - 67th, 2008 - 90th, 2009 - 71st)
Rice
Akron
Minnesota
Ball State
San Jose State
Eastern Michigan
Army
Virginia
Washington State
New Mexico State
That's it.

Yeah, and where are they ranked?
Posted on 1/2/10 at 9:57 pm to RummelTiger
would say LSU went against much stronger defenses than Tulame.

I'm sure Tulane's offense faced some highly ranked defenses, too.
You're a bright one...

hey we're 9-3. That's what we expected. Now shut up.

Not a fair comparison. Considering we didn't allow a single point on from them when they played us.

Wasn't saying it was all apples to apples, but it still ain't exactly great. FWIW here's the rest of the SEC teams' total offense ranks:
12. Florida
14. Arkansas
19. Auburn
34. Alabama
42. Ole Miss
46. Tennessee
66. Mississippi State
73. Georgia
76. South Carolina
90. Kentucky
Seems like we had a similar strength of schedule to some of those, right? All in all, when our recruiting has been top 10 on average over the last four years, the offense is a disaster.

Really not relevant, unless you add defense into the equation. The idea is to win football games. You either score alot of points, or you give up very few, or a combination of both.

Statisticians are still blown to their minds how LSU managed to win 9 games with their atrocious offensive stats.
I still can't explain it, it's like we won but the stats don't prove it.

Bobby Toledo >>> Crowton

It's fairly easy.
In 9 of 13 games our offense, no matter how inferior it may be, still managed to score more points than our competition.

: Kige: Toledo is so good he has had a QB competition every pre-season and changed QB's by midseason.

slanted stat, but there is no way we should EVER not be in at least the top 50. Hell, we could have padded our stats against some of the ULL's, Tulane's and Tech, but we could not.

You raise a good point, however another factor is that all those teams like Tulane that play shot teams and are highly ranked displace the other teams.
As I said then, and say again now, that isn't to say LSU's offense doesn't suck, only addressing the facts as far as the numbers, rankings, etc.

i know our offense sucked, but statistics are not and never have been or ever will be the end all story. tulanes schedule was way easier than ours. we came up against way better defenses played in much more difficult circumstances against juiced opponents and their first strings. say, bama played tulane (which they didn't this year), their players would be cruisin' and their 2nd and 3rd teamers would have seen a lot of action. statistics alone are just not that revealing in college. they are a tool in a general sort of way and should not be ignored, but hanging one's hat on stats simply doesn't get the job done. having said that, our offense sucked and i sure didn't need stats to tell me why. i don't care what the recruiting services came up with, our OL and to some extent DL players were overrated. lineman are very difficult to rate in high school.
