Cool.
Looking forward to seeing what he can do. He's basically been a mediocre player though

Good deal
low risk signing...provides depth
no negatives to it

according to Duncan he is a starter, not depth.
IF true guess the Saints aren't as sold on the inhouse options at OLB as they said.

If you just look at traditional stats, his career average was on par with Fujita's 2009, and that's with being hurt last year.
The SLB gets about as many snaps as the nickleback in today's NFL, particularly in our scheme. Having a vet there helps, but it's not a position of dire need. We got him at the vet minimum, I believe. Great value.

I feel better about the position now.
now if we can make something happen for one more DT.

I like it, especially that it's only for one year. He may not be a star, but I'm not sure that either Casillas or Arnoux are ready and Dunbar's value to the team is on special teams.
Plug Ingram in at SLB for a year and give the young guys time to develop. Or draft a better OLB in next year's draft.
Good signing.

just because he's a starter doesnt mean depth isn't added to the position

Yeah if that's how you meant it but it sounded like you meant he wasn't going to be a starter.

extra bonus that GW has first hand experience with him. Already knows what he can and can't do.
Reminds me of the post SB interview with GW and he casually mentioned he wasn't in control in Jax (Del Rio a D guy). I'm sure he must've had some I could do ~~this with ~~this player if I could let him go. Hoping that's the bust out scenario for Ingram.

Obviously they asked GW if he approved so the fact that he wants the guy tells me all I need to know

more from Payton-
“Clint had the scope done about 7 to 10 days prior to his visit to our place,’’ Payton said. “So, when he took the physical we looked closely at it. He was getting ready to travel to two or three other clubs and was really probably traveling too early on the knee. But, we liked the player and the key was finding the right number and the right price.
“We’re anxious to see him come in here and compete, and I think with his age and his experience he’s looking forward to that as well. He’s a real physical player. He’s a guy who can rush the passer and bring that element to his play.’’
“We looked closely at the injury and the prognosis, and with the proper rehab and a full recovery, we feel we can be patient with (Ingram) and get him up to speed having him here for the OTAs,’’ Payton said.
“It would be a natural assumption that we’re going to pencil him in as a starter, and he’ll get a chance to compete for that opportunity. He’s the right guy at the right number for us, so now we have a little depth and we’ve got more competition.’’

From the Parcells School of Media Discourse: penciled in and competing

good sign for depth
I don't think he will start. Probably Casillas or Dunbar
