I think we underestimate the coast country flights in sports

Consider the lakers.
Game 2 ended at between 9 and 10 PM Pacific time. These guys, tired after another intense playoff game, probably already have their bags packed. I assume they board the plane sometime between 1 and 6 AM, and travel 5 hours across the country. Meanwhile, they lose 3 hours, and I dont care how comfortable they make the planes for these players; No plane is comfortable for a 6'10 240, 7'0 290 pound man (consider the shite Bynum has to go thru with the knee).
They get to Boston in the early afternoon, probably board a bus, and go straight to shootarounds.
Thats grueling.
Football, now it is physically taxing, cannot relate to Basketball in terms of the jsut the mental exhaustion that probably goes on. Football players have the best travel times in sports (even with the dreaded Sunday-Thursday games).
Baseball isnt on par with basketball because..well its not as physicially as taxing of a sport. People will point to mental grind of 162 games, and that not many players can play all 162 games. Well, it doesnt take alot of physical energy to sit in right field all day, and potentially have a ball not every come to your side.

i wouldnt bet a dime on it but i would imagine the lakers flew out the next day, not right after the game. next day is pointless if all the players are tired from the game and travel. they have to get sleep at some point

Possibly, but if the fly out the next day, say at 8 or 9 AM, the players still need to be at the Airport by atleast 7:30. I doubt many of them live close to Airport, so manyy of them had probably gotten up around 5:45 AM. Then you have to consider monday morning LA traffic; horrendous.
So these guys probably got home at 12, and woke up at 5:30. 5 1/2 hours of sleep.
Plane ride sleep is never as comfortable as a bed.
So they leave at 9. They get to Boston at 2 PM Pacific time. Thats 5PM Eastern. Go straight to TD Garden for a shootaround. 1 1/2-2 hours plus media time. Get back to the hotel at 9 to 10 PM.
That is physically and mentally taxing.

They can get to the airport ten minutes before takeoff dude...they dont fly commercial. AND...they have couches and shite on the planes so they can lay on them and sleep.. Not that big a deal.

True, they probably have their bags checked hours in advance or bring it to the home game.

That is true, but its not like being at home.
I see what you are getting at, but I can only imagine that playing a grueling 40 mins in a NBA finals game, and then making a cross continental flight for 5 hours.
That has to be physically taxing

Game 2 was on Sunday.
They arrived on Monday.
Game 3 was on Tuesday. If they went to s shoot around Monday afternoon, it's because they were well rested to do so

While we're talking about this, I have a question. Why was the Baltimore Ravens' plane in Atlanta this past Sunday? Saw it on the runway, and I was curious, but didn't want to start a thread.

these teams have chartered flights with custom planes dude. They arent riding in some commercial puddle jumper
They have people pack their bags for them. They are basically responsible for nothing outside of playing the game

whats ridiculous was the 4 (?) days off between game 1 and 2 in LA, followed by the one day off when it moved to boston

A little off topic, but this is why I hate the fact the Jackets are in the Western Conference in the NHL. An Eastern time zone team in the West (Detroit is, too), with all that travel/time zone crap. Crazy.
