Is the rumors of Melo coming to New Orleans real?

If he comes to NO it will most likely be in a trade before the trade deadline this season, not as a FA next season. The Hornets won't be the only team trying to trade for him and all indications are that he has his heart set on NY. Don't get excited about it just yet.

In case this is a serious question, I'll quote myself from a few weeks ago in response to someone saying letting Peja and Songaila expire would give us $21 million in "cap space".

The Luxury Tax Threshold is not the same thing as the Salary Cap. Once you hit the Salary Cap you are limited to using exceptions. There are other things that effect your cap space as well, like holds you have to place for resigning West and Thornton. If we do nothing besides let exipirings expire and plan to keep Thornton and West, we will be right at $58 million and limited to the MLE.
Keep in mind that if the lockout comes all of these rules could change dramatically.
