You do realize UNC lines up on one line, while LSU is going to be spread out and ready for the high kick, or the squib??

Golfer.
1- They are CLEARLY in a "go for the onside kick" mode.
1.5- The ball is teed up in the laid-down "make it bounce" onside kick mode.
2- 6 of their guys are lined up on the right hash. 7 is the kicker, 8 is a guy lined up directly behind the kicker. That means 8 guys on the right half of the field and 3 guys on the left.
3- We have 3 guys on the line, 2 of whom are TRUE FRESHMAN taking their first high pressure onside kick.
The high kick or the squib? Seriously?
ETA: Watch the video (courtesy of 'the onside kick' thread #1) and tell me LSU was prepared for that onside kick recovery.
And follow my posts and you'll see I am pretty heavy in the pro-Miles camp.

The other 3 are behind them since most kicks have to go at least 10 yards.
1 was back in case they kick it and have to have 4 on the other side.

Watch the friggin video. How much do you think Eric Reid handles the ball? Clearly he was put in a bad position cause you see how hesitant he is to charge the ball before 10 yards. Blue at least makes a play to try to take the ball out of the air.
We still should have had 4 guys there and probably RS Sophs-Sr's that are not playing their first live college game.

The guys on the field were the hands team and have worked on this more than anyone on LSU's team.....

I watched the friggin video and the friggin game live in person. That many freshman probably isn't the best idea but they probably are on the hands team for a reason and it wasn't 8 on 3. We had 6 over there.

Hands team or not.
8 vs. 3.
2 TRUE freshman in their first live game.
It's a recipe for disaster.

We had 6 guys there and counting their kicker as the 8th is a bit misleading. He isn't recovering the ball.

And the formation LSU lined up in is about as normal as anyone would see.
We clearly had the hands team out there. And once again, Miles is bitched at for not playing the young guys and bitched at for when he does.
Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't.

This is also an illegal formation....which not surprisingly the officials missed as well.

They had 4 on the left and 6 on the right just like LSU. The nearest guy on the left just ran over as soon as the ball was kicked.

Not so fast, my friend.

Free Kick Formation
ARTICLE 2. A ball from a free kick formation must be kicked legally and from some point on Team A’s restraining line (Exception: Rule 6-1-2-d) and on or between the inbounds lines. The referee will declare the ball ready for play when the officials are in position after the kicker has received the ball. After the ball is ready for play and for any reason falls from the tee, Team A shall not kick the ball and the official shall sound his whistle immediately. When the ball is kicked (A.R. 6-1-2-I-IV):
c. At least four Team A players must be on each side of the kicker [S19].
#7 is directly behind the kicker as the kicker kicks the ball (watch the hash marks when the kicker kicks and the guy behind him) which technically places 4 players on the 'other side' of the kicker.

By rule, they have to have at least 4 people on either side of the kicker. The most they should have had was 7 including the kicker, who probably isn't going to jump into the fray. We had three up and three right behind them for the kick that sails just over the front line. It was good preparation. We can bash the coaches for other stuff, but not this.

If we try this with a guy behind the kicker, I guarantee we get a penalty.

Does anybody sincerely believe that Les Miles would run out anybody but the players who gave LSU the best chance of recovering the onside kick?
Really?
