Several NFL teams could face blackouts this season

"NFL rules require games be blacked out in the home market if they are not sold out 72 hours prior to kickoff. The league, according to the newspaper, had 22 games blacked out last year, a five-year high. Five teams, all of which had losing records, were part of the blackouts last season: Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders and the St. Louis Rams.
Tampa Bay is preparing for a possible Week 1 blackout, as team spokesman Jonathan Grella told USA Today that the Buccaneers are “grappling with the attendance issue.”
Since March, Buccaneers officials have mentioned the possibility of blackouts after last season's 3-13 record. The Tampa Tribune notes, “a struggling Florida economy and uneasiness about the team's direction have contributed to the lack of ticket sales.”
The newspaper notes three 2009 playoff teams could face blackouts, including the Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals and San Diego Chargers." THANK GOD I HAVE MY SAINTS, I dont think we would ever have to worry about that for New Orleans

You missed the first forty or so years of the franchise I guess, but hears to hoping those days never come back

did you just start following NFL football and the Saints? Before a few years ago we always had to worry about this.

That used to be so depressing as a kid--not being able to afford to go to the games and not being able to watch them because of blackouts.
I used to turn on WWL radio and listen, though. Heck, I used to turn the radio on even when the Saints were on TV and just turn down the television.
But the worst thing ever was(and I know it's a change of subject)when there was some prison break that had nothing to do with us in New Orleans and those a-holes at WWL actually broke away from the Saints vs I can't remember who. I believe it was either Pittsburgh or Cincy.
You talk about an entire city of pissed off people?
That was back when the local stations, as well as the NFL, just didn't get it.

But you know there has been loyal fans and since we have begin to taste the winning ways, It makes it even more sweeter to be with a team that suffered through so much and now to have an even larger fan base is great

I remember worrying about whether or not a game would play on tv since it was part of my Sunday ritual in an effort to put off homework.
I also remember that some companies occasionally would buy out the tickets so the game would come on tv.

Only problem with that is the radio broadcast is about 2-3 seconds ahead on TV. Feels like they should br yelling "spoiler alert" before every play

I recall this also. Hibernia seemed to always step up if there were only two or three thousand tickets left.

Yep--back in the good old days when I would listen to Jim and Archie jumping the doggone gun.
Of course this was when Archie was still a Saints fan.

I hated not knowing if I was going to be able to watch the game or not. I feel like it hasn't been that long since I was wondering this constantly.
