Duck hunting shotguns.....

thinking about getting back into duck hunting. Been one time since steel shot and lower limits were introduced. I don't think my old A-5 Browning without a choke that I used to hunt with will suffice anymore from what I am hearing. Any recommendations (include prices)
TIA,
Sull

Do you have a general price range? Since you had an A-5, I assume you want an auto?

no price range, automatic preferably, but not against a pump

I recently changed from my old 870 to a benelli M2. Great gun. 870 $250 - $300. M2 $900 - $1300

Beretta Xtrema 2. Best waterfowl gun IMHO. 1300-1500.

went to purchase the Beretta and ended up w/ new Winchester(super x3 maybe??). I was shocked at what a great gun it is and slighlty cheaper than beretta or binelli

Rem 1187 shoots nice, priced around $600, Browning Maxmus $1100. Or you can buy a new barral for your around $250- $300 that will have a chock tube set in it if your gun can handle 3",you're one up.

If you like Brownings, why not get a Browning Gold or a Browning BPS?

I've always been a fan of autos, but I'm considering getting one of these..
Browning Cynergy Duck Blind Over/Under. No pistons, no gas, minimal maintenance and cleaning. Two chokes, one for close work and another for reaching out there. Fully adjustable stock and trigger assembly.

My browning gold hunters have been flawless and recoil is minimal. I have one in 3" with a 26" barrel and one in 3-1/2" with a 28" barrel.
Price is around $900. They seem to have been replaced by the Maxxus as the browning site only offers 10ga in the gold now.

I have a Browning Gold Hunter in 3.5" that I hunted with for close to 10yrs.
Last year I bought a Benelli SBE II. I love that gun. The recoil is minimal (considering I'm using 3.5"). It is much lighter than the Browning. It's easier to clean because it isn't a gas operating system. The stock is also adjjustable.
For the money I don't think you can beat it.

My personal favorite is the Xtrema2, this will be the 5th season for mine, wouldn't trade it for anything. If it doesn't fit you, however, check out Benelli SBE II which fits a bit differently, but costs a good bit more. That's assuming you're willing to go for the top end of the price range. Also, no need for the KickOff feature (price upgrade) on the Xtrema2, IMO.
I've never taken an SBE II apart for cleaning but cannot fathom it being any easier than an Xtrema2's breakdown for cleaning. Both great guns, just beware of the infamous "Benelli click." Also, if you're looking for a 3" gun, Benelli and Beretta both have awesome offerings in the M2 and Urika2, though these cost almost as much as the 3.5" gun so doesn't usually make much sense.
The browning synergy O/U is very nice but man will it kick your face off with 3.5's in there. The little recoil pad only does so much. I know one guy that shoots one, but he's a former D1 offensive lineman. Be ready for the punch with that gun! Hearing good things about Winchester SX3 but no first hand knowledge of it.

I've got the Cynergy sporting clays model, it does have a bit of cheek slap. I'd imagine a 3.5" would pack a wallop...

Not sure if it is still the case but when I bought my Browning Gold Hunter, it and the Winchester Super X2 were the exact same gun.

Would not be legal by any means, but man it would be a blast...fully auto AA-12. Stolen pic from the OT
j/k though
But seriously Benelli makes some really nice shotguns that you might like.

quote:Just made the same upgrade. The 870 was a good gun but was worn out and started having problems ejecting. I have only shot the M2 at skeet, but really like how it shoots.

To OP: Benelli Super Black Eagle II is considered the duck hunting shotgun by many serious hunters. The M2 is a lighter version that doesn't shoot the 3.5" loads. The 3.5s are expensive and I wanted the lighter shotgun for doves, squirrels, etc.
Here is a video of someone shooting an M2 LINK
