Hey i haven't really followed LSU's basketball team in the past, so i was wondering if someone could give me a quick rundown of the team this year, what the expectations are & what players are going to lead the team. TIA

Well Nicholls state beat them, but its a young team. Hell it looked like 3 or 4 of them had never played the game before in their lives!

They will not be very good. That about sums it up. Young or not, that doesn't explain why they can't beat a lower tier in state school.

The rundown was a meltdown.

They are better than last night's performance indicates. They have several players who can score in bunches and Stringer can shoot and hit from about 10-15 ft behin the 3 pt line. Where they need work is rebounding. Nicholls boxed them out and played vey physical basketball last night. They werent setting the world on fire with their shooting, but they ran the click down to 10 seconds or less just about every possession. This slowed the game down way beyond our team's comfort level and they were never able to get I to any sort of rhythm.
Nicholls is one of those teams who could make a whole lot of teams look bad during a game due to their style of play. That in no way excuses the loss, but I think under the best of conditions that game is an ugly win.

LSU needs a big man before they will be good

Hey Malcom White, you sat on the bench for a whole year just to come in and play like shite??? get it together, your lack of an inside presence will keep this team down all year.

what about the 7'2" walk-on? He's listed pretty heavy too - is he a total unknown? are we expecting anything from him?
are our starting 5 definite yet or are the spots all in contention or what?

Not at all.
He's 7-2. Pretty heavy, too, from what I understand.

Put yourself in the coach's shoes.
"Hey coach, found you a walk on!"
"Sweet! What's the deal?"
"He's 7-2, big guy, too."
"Great, why isn't he playing ball somewhere?"
"Well, he was a tuba player in the band, and hasn't played basketball since the 9th grade. He should be able to hang in the SEC, though, right coach?"

the 7 foot walk-on has already taken a red-shirt....he will not play this year....

A quick rundown?
They Suck...
They Suck...

They did lose to Nichols, but I think that Trent will use that loss to motivate and raise expectations. Sometimes an early season loss can turn out to be a means to better play down the road. This is life without Tasmin. There is a lot of talent on this team, but most of them are new. They'll have to play together for a while before we see what the team is capable of.

So far, Trent can only win if he's got Brady's players...

That will change, but you have a point. He was able to win with Brady's players.

Don't be surprised if they win 20+

I hope so, otherwise we'll win 2 or 3 games max.

We have a young team, that has some talent.
Depth Chart is...
PG - C. Bass (Jr)/Stringer (Fr)/Populist (So Walk-on)
SG - Ralston Turner (Fr)
SF - Aaron Dotson (So)/Matt Derenbecker (Fr)/Dennis Harris (So)/Jalen Courtney (Fr)
PF - Storm Warren (Jr)/Eddie Ludwig (So)
C - Malcolm White (Jr)/Garrett Green (Jr)
Bass isn't very good, Stringer is young and inexperienced, Populist is a walkon.
Turner played well in his first game, not so well in his second game. I think he'll be a very good player though
Dotson is playing better than last year, looks to be 100% healthy. Derenbecker is showing some potential to be a solid contributor. Dennis Harris has been out and will help once he comes back. He'll probably play some 4 too.
Storm Warren is a good basketball player but is too small to be a PF. Also has foul trouble. Ludwig isn't a scorer and isn't very good IMO.
White hasn't been the force down low everyone was expecting him to be. Garrett Green has been the same as the last two years.
The SEC is down this year so we have a chance to win some games. With the youth of this team I don't expect us to win more then 8 games in the SEC though.
Our OOC schedule is weak and we should win most of those games. NIT is probably our most realistic goal. We won't win the SEC, or the West, and probably won't be going to the Big Dance. I expect us to steadily improve throughout the season.

Hope that happens now. I believe that 20+ wins in a few years will be the norm.
