I just don't see how you sign a contract for $3.5 mil til 2017. $3.5 in 2015 will be equal to what Vandy's coach is making...

the contract has quite the buyout clause. i don't think Petrino wants to get out, and if he eventually does, it'll cost somebody a lot of money

I would assume they'd renegotiate his pay after a few years. I think his buyout drops considerably in 2014, so they'd want to renegotiate.

"The contract also includes an $18 million mutual buyout clause in 2011-12 should the university fire Petrino or he leave the school. The buyout is lowered by $25,000 in 2013 and falls to $14.5 million in 2014 and $10.8 million in 2015. It's $7.4 million in 2016 and $3.9 million in the final year of the deal." per forbes.com

You know, if a coach wants to leave, and Petrino has shown that he doesn't let the grass grow under his feet, then would you (the school...Arkansas) want a head coach on the sidelines that can intentionally frick up just enough to lose a few games?
