Listening to Jimmy Ott on the radio and he said he thought it helped LSU.

I disagree.

Here's why.

For a long time, LSU was the Western boarder of the SEC and if you lived in Texas and wanted to play in the SEC, LSU was your closest, best stop.

This makes it easier for A&M to recruit LA But it doesn't really help LSU recruit Texas. LSU has a history of doing well in east TX, but that's fallen off a little in recent years.

And while A&M will never do that much damage to LSU, we now may be entering a period where 4 other coaches:

Saban
Muschamp
Dooley and
Fisher

have strong LA ties and no what's up here as far as talent. All of those players may put a little stress on the pond even with Frank Wilson as our ace in the hole on the home front.

Otherwise, yes it's good that the SEC is becoming even more powerful.

Oklahoma would be better choice for expansion over Missouri

The problem with that is that A an M wil always be second fiddle in Texas. Alot of Texas kids grow up hearing that. And alot of them don't want to play for a little brother when they could play for another SEC school.

I agree with you 100%. I think it may not be in our best interest.

kids pick schools. no kid is going to say "I like LSU better than A&M but A&M is 2 hours closer to home so I'm going there"

This will hurt LSU. Now they won't have to leave home to play in "The League". Here's another thing to look out for...Bama will send Auburn to the East so Bama can pump their brand name in Texas. They will love playing in Texas every other year. Nick will make it so.

As long as LSU keeps being one of the top tier teams in the nation, we'll be able to get the recruits from A&M that we really need/want. IMO

Tigah, I agree that top La talent will generally go to LSU if offered. I think if A&M to SEC happens it will help LSU recruiting in East Texas & Houston areas, but I think A&M will get a better % of the players they want from these parts of Texas. It will also help A&M with some La recruits that LSU doesn't have room for as well.

Lot of LSU folks in houston area. LSU will have no issue here. Oh yeah, and college station is lame.

My big thing, is that we will finally, once again have a rivalry of a competitive team that we look forward to playing and beating.

Since Tulane and OleMiss went into the dumpster...that has been meh. They have tried to build up Arkansas, but for the most part, it is so what. They are in our division , so it is important in that respect, but not a true rivalry. Alabama has become somewhat of a rivalry, but mostly becaause of the Little Liar.

Now A&M, that is a team I can enjoy beating. And they are competitive in most sports.

not. I just don't see being 2 hours closer being that big of a deal. If it were kids would have been choosing A&M over LSU anyway regardless of the conference.

This will definitely hurt our recruiting in East Texas. Fortunately, A&M is a polarizing kind of school. You either love them or hate them. We'll still get some Houston area kids, and some east Texas kids from the Golden Triangle up to Longview-Tyler.

But it will be harder.

Heck it already is. We haven't really been recruiting East Texas very well for several years now.

We'll be alright so long as we keep dominating our own state, and supplementing with Texas, Florida, and Carolina players.

If a kid if from Houston, his parents have to drive an hour and a half to see him play at A&M, but more like 5 1/2 hours to see him play at LSU.

That is a 4 hour difference, not a 2 hour difference. And that is a big difference.
