Longhorn Network will show second game/HS highlights

Per Kirk Bohl's (Austin American Statesmen writer) twitter. Probably going to be kansas state. Kstate just got a online network...maybe they'll air it on both? I'm sure showing HS highlights will drive the wedge deeper with Ags.
The network has only been picked up by one carrier, which only serves 17000 people in remote parts of Houston. Supposedly ESPN threw alot of cash around in hopes of it being picked up by others before it launches next week.

I'm not sure they can even show HS highlights.
The Board endorsed the NCAA staff's interpretation of existing bylaws to prohibit youth programming on institutional and conference networks and broadcasts, which will provide time to evaluate the proper application of NCAA rules. The NCAA is holding a meeting on August 22 with representatives from broadcast networks and several conferences to discuss the issue.

That's what I thought to. Maybe they're just going to pursue it. It's legality could be dependent on the lengths of the highlights. They're saying they're going to try though.

The would mean parts like kingwood/katy/woodlands...if you're familiar with how spread out houston is.

I don't think it has anything to do with the length, its the fact that they are showing possible recruits on a school branded channel.
Any and all showing of possible recruits is not allowed.

There is a sign at 610 and 290 (northbound), I highly doubt that they'd pay for that billboard if people who would be on 610 couldn't subscribe.

They're trying to get subscribers. Whorn fan sees sign, doesn't have channel, calls cable company to complain.
Or at least that's what they hope will happen.

I wouldn't underestimate them, they have more cash than they can spend.

They're all over Dallas too.. so yes they're paying for billboards for people who cannot currently subscribe.

Most of their advertisements are telling longhorn fans to request it for their tv provider. Nobody but "Entouch" is carrying it right now. They only provide service to 17000 people, comcast, u-verse, and direct tv dominate the "real" Houston.
UPDATE: Big12 spokeman say HS highlights would still be illegal, they killed that rumor in 30 mins

Yeah, this just has fail written all over it... posted on Burnt Orange Nation yesterday:
Meanwhile the Big 12 crumbles...

Entouch, a broadband service provider to Houston master planned communities, is apparently the first confirmed carrier for ESPN's Longhorn Network. According to their customer service department, the channel is 77 and will be available in September.
This makes since for this provider as they are local to Houston and the Sep. 3rd game is away for Rice.
Hopefully the dominoes will start falling now for the big-boy providers.
If you have not already done so, please go to www.getlonghornnetwork.com and enter your email and zip code so LHN can forward to your cable or satellite provider.

The B1G had a big battle with the cable companies to get them to carry it, but in that case you had a huge number of fans and alumni from 11 different schools helping. In this case you got TX for and everyone else against. We'll see.

Not only billboards in Dallas promoting the Rice - Texas game but also heavy rotation on the Ticket (probably the most expensive radio time in town).
The LHN is not worth the trouble, and UT will find that out the hard way. Destroy a conference and lose money so fat cat alumni can brag in their boardrooms/golf course about having their own network... that nobody watches.

According to some of the people posting to the Longhorn Network's Facebook page, AT&T U-Verse and Dish Network will carry Longhorn Network but haven't announced it yet.

I haven't spotted any LHN ads in the Austin area.

Per the chip guy from ob's, a&m wasn't even on the call...

Correct, Loftin apparently wasn't on the call. Probably not that big of a deal.
Per Kirk Bohls
"Texas moves kickoff of Rice game back an hour to 7 p.m., I guess, to give Longhorn Network an extra hour to try to find a carrier."
