The AQ "Golden Ticket"?

Obviously being in an AQ conference is the desire of any D1 football program. And currently only six conferences have AQ status. So it is much like the "golden ticket" from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Let me throw out this possibility. A&M goes to the SEC. Mizzou goes to the B1G. Kansas goes to the Big East. OU/OSU (maybe with Texas and/or Tech) heads to the new SuperPAC.

The remaining members (Baylor, Iowa State, K-State, and maybe Tech), who now comprise the remainder of the Big 12 (neither Big nor 12, but beside the point), contact the Mountain West Conference (which has been begging for AQ status). They make the following offer: merge your members with ours. We'll need to structure it so that the Big 12 remains the surviving legal entity, since we hold the AQ "golden ticket" and the NCAA may try to revoke it otherwise.

Thoughts?

Understood. All these threads make me want to .

Take a pain pill and a nap. Then when you feel better think about it.

It would be the best possible outcome for the remaining schools in the Big 12

BIG 12:
Baylor
Iowa St
Kansas St
Bosie St
Air Force
Colorado St
New Mexico
San Diego St
UNLV
Wyoming
La Tech
Fresno St

I added 2 b/c I think they would need to get to 12. That looks like a terrible conference....

Sounds like a plausible idea.

If the Big 12 does fall apart, there would almost have to be another AQ school brought into the mix.

As it stands right now, if they are not involved in the BCSCG, the champions of the following conferences go to the following bowls:
SEC - Sugar
ACC - Orange
Big 10 - Rose
Pac 12 - Rose
Big 12 - Fiesta

If the Big 12 goes away, the Fiesta is looking at not having a conference tie in at all. No matter what happens you would have to restructure the BCS setup. You would either:
Have two at large teams playing in the Fiesta
Tie the Big East winner to the Fiesta
Eliminate all individual BCS bowl/conference tie ins and have some type of either regional placement system or else a seeding system where BCS 1 and 2 are in the title game, 3 & 4 are in this bowl, 5 & 6 that bowl, etc. and rotate every year.

The best I think they can get is this(in no order). 3 members from 4 conferences(MWC,B12,CUSA,WAC).

1. Bosie St(MWC)
2. Baylor(B12)
3. Kansas St(B12)
4. Houston(CUSA)
5. SMU(CUSA)
6. Air Force(MWC)
7. Iowa St(B12)
8. Southern Miss(CUSA)
9. La Tech(WAC)
10. Fresno St(WAC)
11. Nevada(WAC)
12. San Diego St(MWC)

This conference does not deserve, and would not receive, an automatic bid to the bcs once the contracts are renegotiated.

If Baylor turns out to be good this year, you argue that conference deserves the AQ status as much as the Big East.

FWIW, the NCAA doesn't have anything to do with the BCS. The BCS is an agreement between the BCS conferences.

It looks like C-USA with different teams.
