MrCFB Tony Barnhart
Chuck Neinas on Missouri: "I believe Missouri would like to remain in the Big 12." Said UM Board of Curators "may have a different idea."
Also, this is from Dave Matter of the Columbia (MO) Tribune

Been told #Mizzou fan unrest with Big 12 is having impact on leadership's way of thinking. Continued discord within league big factor too.

sounds like what happened with A&M...problem is that the golden handcuffs being proposed to keep teams in the Big 12 are strong...maybe too strong. Once you agree to that, you are stuck.

Who is "Missouri" in the "would like to stay Big 12" camp? If fans/alums/students AND the Board want out of that league, wouldn't that actually constitute the collective that is "Missouri."

These are also telling, in my opinion...

Alden says #Mizzou factions are on the same page. I've been told separately that's more true now than it had been during this process

By #Mizzou factions, I mean athletic director, fb coach, chancellor, etc. Lots of actors in this play
Gary Pinkel is obviously fed up with the Big 12's crap. If everyone else is on the same page with him, that's some good news for MU fans.

The only person that I can think of is Deaton since he's the Big 12 rep from Mizzou. He's the only one who's been adamantly supportive of keeping the conference together.
But the fans, AD (Pinkel and Alden), and the BOC seem to be pro SEC.

Chicken, I don't think Mizzou has officially signed on to that yet.

Tigerman, Interesting poll there in the Tribune. Eighty-nine percent favor joining the SEC.

The Mizzou fan base has been bombarding our BOC and Deaton as well as the AD with emails supporting a move to the SEC. The fans are unifying and it might happen after all this crap over the last two months.
Mizzou fans, the BOC and AD are favoring a conference move if Texas doesn't meet any demands. I think Deaton is happy he got everyone to give the Big 12 one last chance, but he knows this really is the last chance.

Seems to be a lot of support for Mizzou to SEC. If Big 12-2-1-1 = 8 teams - I think OU and UT would be just fine with it. The less competition these two have the better in their eyes. They both seem to be on the same page now - UT sets the rules OU - you follow.

1. Pressure from alumni and boosters means a lot to University admins. They are basically better paid politicians. They do what the public makes them do.
2. This whole idea of a 6 year "handcuff" will actually be the undoing of the conference. Schools with other options who are already not so happy with the Big 12 (Mizzou) are going to run from the idea of committing so deeply to something they don't want.
The handcuff is the equivalent of a couple who now hates each other and wants to break up deciding that the better option would be to get married.

Just wondering from a Mizzou fans perspective if you could be in any conference you wanted would it be the SEC or the Big 10?

I would welcome Mizzou to the SEC with open arms
hope ya'll pull it together and make the switch

Barnhart was on Finebaum earlier has said he is hearing Missouri is currently the only remaining Big 12 school to NOT sign the agreement.

First of all it was Slimebaum so discount that. Second, aggy has painted Baylor with the broad brush of fricker but according to this release from OU's Boren they are not the problem. All Big 12 Presidents participated in a conference call last night including Loftin of aggy.
quote:
Texas A&M President R. Bowen Loftin participated in the call as a voting member, but Boren said "no one should take that as a signal that they have changed their minds." Boren said the other nine members did not remove the threat of legal action that has kept A&M's departure from being finalized.

little surprised the Kansas schools would go along with this if its true.
obviously if things are perfect they'd love to stay in a healthy big 12 but like Missouri that means passing up other potential options to stay in a big 12 that is far from healthy.
Missouri at least realizes this and doesn't want to be tied to a dying conference while the rest of the college football world moves on. I figured Kansas would look hard at the big east and hold out on signing this deal as well.
what do they have to lose for holding out a while longer instead of panicking and signing this 6 year deal?

big east is even more unstable than the big12.

big east just lost syracuse and pitt - may also lost TCU to the Big 12 instead of adding them. WVU is interested in leaving for somewhere like the SEC
Big East is on the threshold of collapse without the big names like OU or Texas to keep it viable with what they have lost

I only want Mizzou if they are put in the east. Moving AU to the east screws up too much
