Legally. Relatives of mine have had two racoons ransack the bird feeders the past week or so. They don't want to kill them, just have them stay away. They live in a neighborhood with a fascist Home Owner's Association, just in case that helps you give better advice.

Buy a live trap, Racoon size..Most Outdoor/Some Hardware stores would have...Mix you up some honey and peanut butter, and put it on the trigger plate. Its deadly...Then take them off, put a 22 round in their head, and dump them outon the side of the road, and no one will think twice.

What they said. You'll catch them the first time. Make sure you take them far enough away they can't come back or you'll never be able to catch them again.

Coons ain't stupid.

Check the laws first. In most cases it is illegal to catch and release a raccoon in La.

What if you're trapping feral cats and catch a raccoon? If you can't release the coon your trap just became an expensive cage for your new pet.

I've always heard that if you kill one coon in the family the rest will not return. I've had success keeping coons off a deer feeder but I'm not sure I can give much more than what has already been said.

He's right. It's illegal to move them.

If you kill the coon, and remove it, you can re-use the trap.

To the OP: Get a havahart trap, and trap the coons. Tell them you are going to bring them to a nice place in the country. Go to nice place in the country. Choot em.

That took too long for a Forrest Gump quote to pop up.

When I was a kid, my best friend's dad had a fish farm that was over ran with coons. Finally he caught one by the leg with a snare trap, it was about 30 feet from the workshop. That night he walked out there with a pair of 110 volt worm prods and lit it up. Never thought a coon could scream like that. That place was void of coons for along time after that.

haven't read the thread yet, but, our rule of thumb was to : bake the big uns with sweet taters, and fry the young tender kittens..

Had the same problem with coons at a backyard deer feeder. Bought a live trap, caught one, and left him there to slowly die and decay over a couple weeks. Not one coon has been back in a years time.
