Not Musicals or Best soundtracks.

1. Crossroads
2. The Commitments
3. Walk The Line
4. This is Spinal Tap
5. 8 Mile

There are many more, but these are my personal favorites.

ETA: If I could make another list, That Thing You Do and Coal Miner's Daughter would be on it.

I forgot about Coal Miner's Daughter. I should kick out 8 Mile and sub it in.

Ray was really good also.

I constantly see 'lists' where everyone just regurgitates the same crap...not that the above list are bad movies, but it's obvious that the source from which you draw from is very limited.

Without putting much thought into the question...I can rattle off 5 films that you should check out.

A Hard Days Night (1964)
Saturday Night Fever (1977)
Tender Mercies (1983)
The Doors (1991)
Mr. Holland's Opus (1996)

Tender Mercies, OTH, is an excellent candidate for this category.

Surprised no one has mentioned Amadeus yet.

I've seen these. Only once though. Val Kilmer really killed it as Morrison.

I'm not sure what you are getting at. Crossroads and The Commitments aren't exactly over played movies.

Saturday night Fever was not really about music.

I would add "Walk the Line" to my list.
