I've decided to set stereotypes aside and give soccer a real chance. I work at Rio Tinto Stadium with ReAL Salt Lake but I've been told that MLS is crap and I need to follow foreign teams.

So how did you go about picking a foreign team to care about? I think that rooting for a team will help give me a better chance of enjoying soccer.

First off, pick a league. EPL is the easiest to follow, since the matches are shown on espn and Fox Sports. Start watching matches. Eventually you'll learn about all the clubs, and will naturally gravitate to one of them.

I picked Arsenal as my favorite foreign team. These are the reasons why:

1. When I started following them they had Thierry Henry, who was one of my favorite players at the time.

2. I'm a big fan of the French national team, and Arsenal tends to be very "French."

3. Arsenal's coach is named Arsène Wenger. He is French, and his ideas about the game and how to develop young talent are top notch.

4. Arsenal plays a very attractive style of soccer (think Barçelona-lite).

5. Arsenal FC is responsible with their money. There is no salary cap in European soccer, so teams are free to spend themselves into debt in order to buy the "best" players. Arsenal does not do this, for the most part. +1 for financial stability.

6. They play in England, in the Premier League (the highest division in England and arguably the best league in the world, but the Spanish league might be parallel or better. There is a lot of debate here). This is a big selling point since commentary is in English, news about the team is always in English and easily available, etc.

I started following the team, signed up to TD and started REALLY getting into the team since we have a bunch of Gunners (Arsenal fans) here on the board.

So yeah, good luck with your selection! You might just start watching the EPL when the season starts up again in August and see who you become attracted to. This is how many people choose their teams.

1. I wanted a team located in a city I would like to visit.
2. Fairly easy to watch a lot of their matches.
3. Style of play.
4. I wanted a team that can compete but I wanted to avoid being a bandwagoner, so I passed on the big 4 in the epl.
5. Don't follow a club because you like a player. No telling how long they will be there.

Eventually, I became a Tottenham Hotspur fan.

I became a Man U fan after spending a while in Manchester, going to some games, and getting caught up in the Manchester Derby buzz...

I'm flying to Manchester in about three hours actually... If I see any famous footballers I'll be sure to inform the board!!

I started by watching the weekly Premier League Review Show on Fox Soccer.

You get to see all the games, all the goals, all the other highlights without all of that time when "nothing happens" ( ).

You can fix on a player or team that way.

I decided that I liked Carlos Tevez of Manchester City and Jimmy Bullard of Hull City. Well, turns out that Bullard is probably a bigger head case than Tevez, and Hull City got sent down after that season, so they were out. Stuck with City and, obviously, have not been disappointed. YaYa Toure is now my favorite player in any sport.

City was responsible for probably the most exciting finish to a game I've ever watched on TV. Yes, now after the fact, it was more exciting than the Bluegrass Miracle.

There. I said it.

I liked soccer my whole life, but only in the last few years have I started to become more intently focused on it.

That being said, I initially was drawn to Man City and then I also like watching some of the spanish players like Torres which is what got me into watching and following Chelsea.

I like both teams, but I've decided that I'm Man City all the way now. Chelsea is good, but I have a feeling Torres is on his way out, so i'll be done with them when he's gone.

I do like Toure, Balotelli, and Aguero - so Man City it is for me.

When I was really young and still played rec league soccer, my mom bought me a pair of soccer shorts from the Goodwill that just so happened to have the Manchester United logo on them.

Then one year I got FIFA for the PS2 on my birthday, started playing a ton of games with United because I recognized the logo. Became a huge fan of Nistelrooy, then CR7, and then Rooney when he came over from Everton.

Since then I've watched nearly every MUFC match that is on TV over here. When I was a kid, I didn't know I was about to become a fan of the World's most popular sports team. I just liked the shorts and how they played on FIFA. When I got older, my love for United just grew and grew.

So I chose my favorite foreign team by using a pair of shorts from the Goodwill and trying them out on FIFA.

I am in the process of trying to do this as well

I also tried to avoid bandwagoning on some of the top teams in EPL and I'm leaning towards Tottenham due to Fifa, Solid club, new stadium coming but I also may go with one of the bigger clubs, I need to watch some games this season.

Honestly, I follow players, not teams. There are teams I'll always root for (and against), but it's the players.

I was attracted to Chelsea in 2003-04-05ish.

At the time, I was a "pacy winger"... all pace, no touch, up and down the touchline. (I'm now an old, fat, "wily" central midfielder.)

Chelsea had Damien Duff, Shawn Wright-Phillips, Arjen Robben, Joe Cole.... so of course I was drawn there, and stayed.

For anyone new.... my advice is too follow the Americans abroad. You already have a rooting interest in the success of Tim Howard, Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey, etc. Watch them play, cheer for their success. A team will "speak" to you out of that, whether it's one of their teams or one of their opponents.

German grandmother and my dad was born there. Easy choice.

Favorite player Schweinsteiger, and most of the German team has come from Bayern for a while so I recognized everyone.
