Electric fence

Ok, I have a dog that refuses to stay in my backyard. He digs holes under my fence and tears the fence board up, I've literally reboarded the same area about 15 times.
I've tried a body harnes, choke collar, put chicken wire/bricks on the bottom of the fence, nothing.
Anyway, I'm looking for like a straight up hot wire to run around the fence in my backyard. Any of you use one before and/or can recommend one?

I went by tractor supply and got a little kit they had that was simple to install. It didnt have enough wire to cover my 30x40 pin but plenty of power to run a longer wire off the shocker so I bought a roll of like 500ft wire with it and used that wire on the kit. Took maybe 30 mins to install and my master magician lab never escaped again. I only left it plugged in the first week and she never even tried to get out again.

Most of your feed store type places should have one that would work. If my dog keeps climbing out of his pen them I'm gonna take some jumper cables and a car battery and hook to it.

Thats what I hear...once they ride the lightning train, they dont even attempt it anymore.

I'm trying to piece together a kit right now, solar charger and all but I'm having problems finding things to mount the wire to my wooden fence.
ETA: found some

They should have some type of plastic insulator that holds the wire from the fence.

Something like this...

Drive some small staked in the ground next to the fence. You should be able to find the yellow insulators that you can screw to your stakes.
I had one around a garden and 5 years after the garden had been moved you could still throw a ball across where the garden was and the dog still went way around the area.

Yea the ones I have are made to hook on the hurricane fence, but could be screwed to a wooden fense.
Dont mount it too low either. I did and my wire began to sag so I had to move it up so it wouldnt touch the ground. Even though it wasnt hot, I wanted to be able to use it if needed.

You used wire or the polymer type fence? Any tighteners?
Posted on 2/7/13 at 1:51 pm to brass2mouth
The galvanized wire. It was like $20 for 1/4 mile.
And no on the tighteners. Just what came in the kit. I was a rookie and thought it would be more too it, and I guess it was but mine did what I needed so I was happy.

When my Lab would dig holes under the fence to get out. My pow pow would make me get a shove and scoop up all the dog crap in the yard and place it long the fence. It works, Dog will not dig where they shite.

Mine doesnt just did, he also tears my fence apart.

I had one for my dog. Worked great. I have never done this, but i hear that pepper along the bottom of the fence makes them stop digging too.

I have the one from tractor supply that was posted and it does a fine job. I had it around my garden to keep the dogs out.
I accidentally touched it a few times. Nice little shock to it.

What kind of dog. I had labs that were digging bad. Went to my local feed store and got a 100 mile charger. Overkill yes but I got it. I promise you they only touched it one time before they realised they wanted nothing to do with it
