Had to play a minimum 5 seasons for them

Before you laugh remember

Kareem
Shaq
Wilt
Magic
Jerry West
George Miken
Elgin Baylor

If you could draft each player knowing the career they would have, I would take Kareem, Shaq, Wilt, and Magic all over Kobe. And Jerry West vs Kobe really could go either way for me. Miken and Baylor were both very good and at least deserve to be in the convo.

For the sake of argument, lets say Kobe's career is over with this injury. If he comes back and is still an all star that would lift him a bit more in my eyes.

and yes...... this should piss off U.K. lol

No f'ng way I would draft Kobe over those 3 centers looking at their careers. And I think a lot of people would agree with that.

This is the dumbest question. He is arguably top-5 all time regardless of team.

Shaq was the Alpha when he played with Kobe. He had to leave for Kobe to even be the best player on his own team. lol No way Kobe is over him. Kareem is the NBA all time leading scorer. And Wilt is usually the person everyone says is the best player ever if they don't say MJ. Magic probably would be the goat if it weren't for HIV.

If you are going with best player I would agree, but you said best Laker.

That is either Kobe or Magic and it's not really close.

You can't look at their careers IMO, you can only look at their Laker careers.

Kobe is a top 5 Laker.

It is for the best player. They had to play for the lakers for at least 5 seasons to be considered.

so your saying lakers let shaq "their best player go" to keep kobe "who isnt as good"

makes sense

You can argue anything. If you try to argue this, you'll end up on the losing end though...unless you're a "see the rings" guy.

People are vastly underrating the value and greatness of bigs here. And I'd put magic in over him so maybe he's fifth? But that leaves out the NBA logo himself so..

When people talk about top players all time it seems they always leave out centers. I guess it takes more skill to play on the perimeter so people think this way? Who knows. But Shaq was easily the most dominant player in his prime and changed the game and people dont even consider him top 5. Prime Shaq > Prime Kobe

Yes, due to the fact that some of the guys only played a limited amount if seasons with the lakers. The big three are magic, Kobe, and Kareem. West was phenomenal as well, but his run at gm could give him an even stronger argument. Peak Shaq was a god damn joke he was so good, but Kobe's entire career in la is worth more than shaq's time as a laker. Wilt was only there for a short amount of time.

Top five lakers are Kareem, Kobe, magic, west, and Shaq IMO. frick, that is loaded.

Exactly. If you are going to argue that players like Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, etc are better Lakers than Kobe, you can't factor in what those players did while they were in Philly, Milwaukee, Orlando/Miami, etc.

Nah, he will be close to the top 5 all-time due to the fact that his sustained excellence is longer than almost any other player.
