Eli Manning vs. Phillip Rivers Debate
Posted on 1/13/14 at 1:27 pm

After Eli's second Super Bowl MVP, it seemed like a lot of the Eli vs. Rivers debate shifted towards Eli as the better player.
But after Rivers' resurgence and Eli's catastrophic 2013 season, has the debate shifted back towards Rivers for the foreseeable future?
Let me put it this way, in my own opinion, 2013 might have been so catastrophic for Eli that he may never catch up to Rivers in the debate. The 2 Super Bowl MVPs look nice, but they're about the only thing that does look nice on Eli's resume.

Rivers has always been a great QB. Mouth breathers with a two minute memory forgot about Rivers.

I'm sure this keeps Eli up at night.

It's pro-Rivers until Eli wins a SB, then its pro-Eli, then slides back to pro-Rivers, then Eli wins another SB and it's back to pro-Eli, then gradually moves back to pro-Rivers...
Ask Charger and Giant fans if they like the trade

superbowls are not everything when determining who is better, but if thats all he has nice on his resume... its miles and miles better than anything on rivers resume. Rivers hasnt even played in a superbowl! Sure eli had a terrible year, it happens. Lets see how he rebounds next year. But eli> rivers so far, and rivers has had some good teams over the years. Its not like he has been in a shitty situation his whole career.

Jim Plunkett also won two super bowls.

Eli and Rivers have tons of years left to either:
a) have good seasons
b) derp

Tony Romo won the super bowl of my heart

The thing keeping me from being Team Eli is his lack of sustained and consistent excellence. So far, his 2011 regular season has been the only All Star season I can point to. I mean, he's been in the league for 10 seasons now. I would just think that Eli should have put a string of All Star seasons together by now.

There are plenty of other QBs I'd rather have than Eli. That being said, I really can't fricking stand Rivers. He's a guy that you just really want to punch in the face repeatedly.
Hard to argue against two rings though and Rivers hasn't sniffed a SB.
Eli by a count hair in this one.

At no point in time(including college) was Eli a better QB than Rivers

Rivers was pretty shitty in 2011-2012, but he has better otherwise (I don't know who was better in 2011-2012). I agree with verlander that Rivers was better in college. Rivers is the second best college QB I have seen (after Luck) in terms of pro potential. (Too young to remember Peyton at Tennessee).

Why? A lot of people feel this way and I never see any explanation.
dude seems really likeable to me.

To me Rivers has always been the better QB

I just don't like him, and I guess I'm a jerk.
There. Now you can't say you never heard an explanation

To each his own I guess. He seems like the one-upper kind of guy at the party that everyone just wants to STFU.

It shouldn't be a debate. Rivers > Eli
Rivers QB rating 96
Eli QB rating 81.2
Rivers completion % 64.4
Eli compltetion % 58.5
Rivers career win % 61.7
Eli career win % 56.3
Rivers has started 23 less games, so I'll go with their average seasons as starters for yards, TDs, and INTs
Rivers average yards per season 4027
Eli average yards per season 3811
Rivers average TDs per season 27.5
Eli average TDs per season 24.8
Rivers average INT per season 12.8
Eli average INT per season 18
Rivers is superior in every single category. He throws for more yards and TDs while completing more of his passes and throwing fewer interceptions.

Do you think Rivers would trade his career for Eli's; and vice versa?
Posted on 1/13/14 at 5:53 pm to roygu
Well I'm sure Rivers would rather have 2 rings. Just like Dan Marino would rather have Terry Bradshaw rings. Doesn't say anything about who's better.

Rivers is a confident cocky M**er, and backs it up... Manning is a passive qb that needs a shitload of help............ Rivers on the Giants and they still win those Sb's IMO..........
