Thanks, currently looking at the one in the link vs a north face with similar stats but is a modified mummy bag and even though it is cheaper, I think I will be more comfortable in this one

I would never buy anything with the North Face name on it. You pay a premium for such a popular name among yuppies.

I guess it is synthetic. Good for wet weather conditions. Should keep you warm as long as weight/bulk isn't an issue.

some of their stuff yeah, but there are two things North Face is really good at. Sleeping bags and their tents. FWIW
Other brands charge just as much for the same quality stuff. NF is just worn more by those types.

Yes it is synthetic which is important because we are expecting wet conditions , but weight wise it is only. 6 pounds and that is for the rectangular style, the mummy is even lighter but I would be miserable in a mummy bag

I've found I can live with mummy bags (I have to as I like to hike and camp with relatively light weights), but I have to go to bed exhausted. Usually easy to do when backpacking, but on some fishing trips where I just go to bed because it is cold and it gets dark early, I can still get pretty miserable.

That's almost more than my total pack weight without food and water
If your not carrying it, doesn't matter.

Wow, I am trying to keep under 50 pounds, but with gun and waders it is going to be tough, the 6 pounder is down from the 8.5 pounder I was initially looking at, and no we wont be carrying that far, weight is more of a factor with flying (commercial and bush plane)

Quality down is worth the money. I slept in 25F this winter. Right at 2 pounds. Compressed will almost fit in a one gallon pitcher.

I agree, and back in boy scouts when we hiked in New Mexico that is what I used and it did great; however for this trip the guide specifically said to get synthetic and not down because of the likelihood of constant wet conditions

And don't underestimate the value of good pads for cold weather camping.

noted, any recommendations?

Wet synthetic sucks too. Maybe not as bad as down does.
There is more hydrophobic down being made now. They spray it with something before stuffing.

Thermarest was what I use before I started hammocking.
REI has the R value rating on their pads I think. Not sure what would be good but higher the warmer. But also warmer is heavier. It's a give and take trade.

You might ask Wiggys what they recommend for their bags. I know some manufacturers base temp ratings on use of two pads (I think), and I've certainly been in a situation where one was not enough.
My go to pad is still a Thermorest Prolite (very light), but in winter I also want a full length foam pad underneath. Two pads may not be necessary if you get a bulkier, warmer pad, but I definitely wouldn't go with just a mummy shape pad without bringing along something with more coverage.

There is no better bag than a wiggy. I spend 3 weeks in Alaska every year and without the wiggy it would be tough. I've seen every type of sleeping bag but when everyone was freezing with there thermals on I was almost hot with just boxers. They still insulate you even if there wet. You can wash them when you get home.don't by Down if it gets wet your done. They also make a cot that folds up the size of a water bottle and it's extremely light. They sale them online at cabelas around $200 and there worth every penny. I also used the thermarest light wait and it worked great Best sleeping bag ever. My brother had a north face on the trip after freezing all week I let him borrow mine for a night and when he got home he ordered a wiggy and said its 100 times better than the north face. The mummy bag is what I have I think it's the long one . Think about what side you would rather have the zipper on they make both . Also look at otter socks there similar to hip boots but a lot lighter.another piece of advice is pack all your stuff in small water proof bags ( little dry bags) then put those in your big bags.
