Should be great for recruiting for them.

quote:

Mullah Omar, the reclusive head of the Taliban, has purportedly released a statement hailing the transfer of the top five Taliban commanders from Guantanamo to Qatar. Omar says their freedom is a "great victory."

quote:

Omar offers his "heartfelt congratulations to the entire Afghan Muslim nation," including "all the mujahideen and to the families and relatives of the prisoners for this great victory."

The Taliban had demanded the release of the five commanders from Guantanamo for years. In early 2012, the Taliban announced that it had established a "political office" in Doha for the expressed purpose of securing their freedom.

quote:

In addition to Omar's statement, the Taliban has also posted pictures of the now ex-Guantanamo detainees being greeted by supporters and family members in Qatar. As The Long War Journal has previously documented, all five were closely linked to al Qaeda prior to their detention and deemed "high" risks to the US, its interests, and its allies, according to leaked Joint Task Force Guantanamo (JTF-GTMO) threat assessments.

The first picture posted by the Taliban appears to show Mullah Norullah Noori, a senior Taliban military commander. According to a leaked JTF-GTMO file, Noori has been "wanted by the United Nations (UN) for possible war crimes including the murder of thousands of Shiite Muslims." He fought alongside al Qaeda in pre-9/11 Afghanistan.

Man what a clusterfrick. This is a terrifying example of appeasement.

You do not comprise with radical extremists who adhere to a religion that comes straight from the pits of the devil's dungeons.

Not really, as this is the weakest President they'll ever see IMO. They beat a wimpy Politician, and not the American will, or people. This was a Political move to hide the VA deaths, and it seems to have worked, but nothing more.

One has to consider the frame of mind of these five assholes after all these years fuming over their captivity.

There is absolutely no way in hell any of them are going to quietly "retire" with their families.

You can bet their desire for revenge will be boiling over every single day going forward and the so-called assurances from Qatar about keeping them in check will be a joke - a sick joke.

Jihadists the world over are celebrating today. And good people, including Shi'a civilians, will feel it tomorrow. And the next day. And the next...

The story is the release of these five bastards, not Bergdahl. His 15 minutes of fame will pass rather quickly after a TV blitz lasting a couple of weeks. The long-term effects of releasing these five terrorists will live on for years. Not only through their actions, but through those of all those who follow in their footsteps.

I just caught the last bit of his presser on Fox, between his words today and his tweets this will not end well. What bothers me is the taliban, who will cut people's heads of at the drop of a hat, yet they kept this guy alive for four years.

I heard the CIA put computer chips/tracking devices in their bodies before they were released, so it's all good. No worries.

The five leaders were “released due to the benevolence of Allah Almighty and the sacrifices of the heroic and courageous Mujahidin of the Islamic Emirate,” which is formal name of the Taliban’s movement, said the June 1 statement.

quote:

“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has explicitly manifested its stance on behalf of its pious masses about the US occupation i.e. even the presence of a single American soldier inside Afghanistan is unacceptable for our nation and masses,” the statement continued.

“Jihad is obligatory against them and our people will continue their legitimate resistance and Jihad against them,” it added.

quote:

In 2001, “we had told the Americans that they will not benefit from this felony, rather it will increase their miseries. But they did not pay any heed and now they are not only stuck into the longest and humiliating war of their history but also internationally their foes are increased; their military, political and economic majesty and supremacy are demolished; rather their decline and deterioration started from the start of this futile war,” said the May 30 statement.

The Taliban also reiterated the demand that all of their imprisoned jihadis be released.

“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is determined to get all the Mujahidin prisoners released as soon as possible,” read the June 1 statement.

The Taliban said they expect Western legal groups, such as ACLU, to help in their campaign.

“In this regard, we expect all the legal and human rights societies particularly the United Nations to share and accelerate their efforts with Afghan people and the Islamic Emirate on the basis of human sympathy so that all the incarcerated people are freed and their basic legal and human rights are safeguarded and they could lead an independent and peaceful life of their own accord,” said the statement.

I'm sure that applies to the other 46 countries that still have troops in Afghanistan today.

Saudi King Abdullah beat you to it more than 5 years ago (March of 2009):

". (S) HOW TO TRACK DETAINEES: "I've just thought of something," the King added, and proposed implanting detainees with an electronic chip containing information about them and allowing their movements to be tracked with Bluetooth. This was done with horses and falcons, the King said. Brennan replied, "horses don,t have good lawyers," and that such a proposal would face legal hurdles in the U.S., but agreed that keeping track of detainees was an extremely important issue that he would review with appropriate officials when he returned to the United States."

The Intelligence community, the Millitary, and in general, people in-the-know, don't seem to be worried about these guys, or are just staying hush/hush on how they are now being used. I'm sure these guys have been brainwashed and broken down pretty bad by now. Only the experts on the PT board are worried

Wouldn't be surprised if Seal Team 6 dropped this entire pack a visit soon. Bet everyone will be begging to stay at Guantanomo after that.

Then what will the spin be? Here let me help: 'Military declares Obama incompetent, finds Taliban commanders, and kills them.'
