Those of you with tattoos - How did you decide on the tattoo(s) you have?

I've always wanted to get a tattoo, but I've never been able to choose what I would have inked on my body for the rest of my life. I have some ideas based on sentimental reasons but even then, how would I decide what design?

I got a small-ish Georgia G. Black G with red oval. It's high up on my arm, basically the shoulder, so it's not visible unless I'm sleeveless.
I thought about it for over a year before finally doing it, and was sober as a judge when I went. I don't regret it one bit. The thing about tattoos is realizing it's something that's going to be on your body for eternity, so it better be something that is important to you. A fricking tribal band or chinese writing or a damn butterfly is just not the case, 99% of the time.

I walked in and asked them what's the cheapest tattoo I could get. The dude pointed to one on the wall- it was a 1.5 inch long banner that said "whoever." I said "ok that's the one, lets do this." I was 19.

I thought about getting a tattoo on my back as well at one point. I was thinking about getting Back to the Future. Back, because it's on my back, and future because I'm the kind of guy who likes to look ahead, into the future. I just think a tattoo should mean something, you know? And it's my second favorite movie.

I found something I liked and it had meaning to me. We had a tattoo party at friend’s apartment in Bahrain and I got it. Now I want more, but I’m too cheap to pay stateside prices.

Actually none, we were drinking though.
Tattoos are illegal there so it's either in someone’s apartment or a backroom in this Russian dudes design studio. I only knew of two artists out there. The Russian was heavy handed and damn near tattooed bone! I used the Pilipino dude...decent work ad cheap!

Thought about it a lot. Drew some stuff so the artist would know what I was going for and then he made some adjustments. All mine have a meaning behind them
