‘Foxcatcher’ Wrestler Mark Schultz Slams Movie, Director: ‘I Hate Bennett Miller

I've seen the film and Schultz is portrayed as a slow-witted dolt who is easily dominated by those around him. I thought it odd that someone who's had so much success as an amateur and professional martial arts athlete could've had such a fragile personality.

The whole movie was off, mark looked handicapped, and DuPont bizarre and you couldn't tell what he was thinking, so most of the movie I couldn't tell how their relationship was.
Then I listened to an interview, and mark said "that's how I was when I was training" he said it's not because he wasn't intelligent, but it was beneficial to him. He said people would get uncomfortable and not ask him for help on training, and a couple other examples.

I will say this. This movie is not a documentary. It is based on a true story. We don't know for sure how Mark Schultz was in that time in his life and I'm not surprised at all that he would be embarrassed by his portrayal in the film. I'm sure if there is any truth to the Foxcatcher movie, it's understandable that he would react in embarrassment. It wouldn't be the first time we've seen professional athletes react abnormally in various dark times in their life.
With that being said, he could be absolutely right. If he is, I hope he can bring in some evidence and witness testimony that collaborate his state of mind at that time in his life.
Either way, I don't think it takes anything away from the phenomenal performances in the movie and it does not alter my view of this being one of the best movies of the year. Just my opinion.

Art Howe was pissed that Miller turned him into a villain for the Moneyball film. They manufactured obstacles for Billy Beane within the franchise, making Howe an a-hole who was just worried about getting another job and the head scout who was such an a-hole that he was fired (neither happened).
I know that these films aren't documentaries, but if someone manufactured a submissive gay relationship from your past, you'd be pretty pissed.

My only problems with the movie is 2 things. First one, at one point in the movie they are watching a UFC fight that took place in 1994. The UFC was not around in the late 80s when this took place. And the second mark fought a black guy in his one and only UFC fight not a white guy. The reason it bothers me so much is that those two things are fact. The rest is a portrait of the characters that are based on real people.
